Sunday, July 12, 2009 | A Breaking News story

Week 52: 130.0 pounds.

I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!Laughing

I am officially a member of the 5% club!Laughing The current statistic is that only 5% of the people who lose weight keep it off long term. The scary truth is that the majority gain it back and there is another group who develop eating disorders.  I have spent this past year looking for people on DS who have lost a lot of weight and kept it off and the only two people I have found who did it without surgery both developed severe eating disorders at the end of their weight loss.Surprised It scared the hell out of me to see that... But I have made it through the first year and into the 5%! YAY!!

It seems unreal actually. Like how the hell did I get here? In my head I am just out of the gates of finishing my weight loss, and I try to keep that kind of a mindset so I stay on my toes.  I decided to make a list of some of the things that I have learned about myself and my own maintenance journey.

1. If I didn't have DS, I would absolutely fail. I need you guys. I feel so strongly that my support system is what has kept me going and kept me strong. You guys are freaking amazing and I honestly will never leave DS because you are my glue. I love you.

2. Trigger foods. I can't eat those three (yes only three, the rest I can usually eat if I am careful) foods that will absolutely derail me. No matter what.

3. If I don't have a number goal (# of workouts, # of burpees, etc) I will become lazy with my working out and slack off big time. I am working on making sure I always have some sort of goal to work towards.

4. I need to write what I bite 365 days each year.  I came back from vacation one time and I remember having to log a 3,600 calorie day full of shit.Foot in mouthEmbarassed And the two days surrounding it were like 2,800 each.Embarassed ahhhhh! But if I hadn't logged it, I wouldn't have confessed to eating that much and gotten right back on track. Skipping a food log is never an option for me.

5. I know myself better than anyone and I have learned to gain trust in myself.  I have a magnet that is in my car that says "Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do."  It has helped remind me to silence the overpowering doubts I get about this process.

6. If I didn't have a therapist to work on my emotional issues with, I would likely have gained it back. The underlying emotional issues behind WHY we eat is the most important thing here.

7. I realize that I am a type A bitch (like Jillian from the biggest loser) and that the way I think is not how most people think. So I am working on finding a balance between telling people exactly what is on my mind and what I think they should do "Food log. Every day. No excuses!!" and letting them find their way.  It is hard for me to back the hell off, but I am working on it.

8. I realize that I WILL do this forever. I am never going back to how I was before. I am going to be a loud and proud member of the 5% club.Smile

Brian is out of town this weekend, but when he gets back I am going to have him take a picture of me in both of my before pants. I have a pair of work slacks and a pair of jeans that I kept for comparison.  I am excited to post the photos.

MY NEW GOALS:

"Month 13 challenge" - From July 12- August 12, I will complete 1,500 burpees, 6,500 crunches, and 49 workouts.  I picked 49 because that will get me all of the way caught up to my 365 workout goal.

"Maintain weight loss Year #2" Maintain my weight between 127.5 and 133.5 pounds.

I am also going to start training for a 3 mile open water swimming race that will be on August 6th.  It is coming soon so I am going to focus on increasing my swimming mileage and getting some ocean swims in as well.

Brian and I are doing a 5k together (he is walking and I am running) on September 5th. I am excited to do a race together!Smile

I agree, awesome journal - you have made it and it's something to be proud of for sure. Very very proud of you and how much your life has changed inside and out. Your very inspiring and gosh can't believe all your goals and how you really stick with it. I think having goals is a big deal - we need to keep pushing and pushing past our limits, we have it in us, we just know. I need to realize that I can do it and push harder and harder, I give up to early! Good luck on your open swim and your 5k, I will be thinking of you on my 5k also on Sept 5th - COOL!!! So nice of Brian being there for you!!! Great job !!!!
