Ideas for New Ways to Share Activities Mood
Friday, November 6, 2009 | A Positive story

It is hard to find things that one can do with Alzheimer's spouse that both equally enjoy. We just finished the world series  so what now?

There is a program online directed by Cornell U. that has a bird count from November 14 through April. On designated days one counts the birds that are in one's yard, whether on feeders or birdbaths or not -- just touching ground on one's own yard. All information is sent via email. As my husband has good eyesight and we have old binoculars around it seemed a natural. At any rate, today the birdbaths received a good cleaning, feeders were rinsed off and filled with fresh supply of seeds. Here's hoping the interest can be sustained.

Now that the oil burner is running I am battling brain fog again. Had a real case of the stupids today. Must remember to keep bedroom windows open far enough each night to facilitate breathing fresh air. Air circulation helps so much. Not meeting exercise goal again. Mean to, just don't have the energy.  Not overeating though.

Hi Sandy, the bird watching sounds like a good idea. All windows at the Mom's NH have bird feeders outside the windows so it must be a commonly enjoyed pleasure! I hear ya about the open windows, it really does help. We also try to open the front and back door every day for at least a few minutes, even if it's 10 degrees outside. A little fresh air goes a long way.

My Mom and Dad always enjoyed working puzzles. When Dad passed away and Mom moved in with me, we sat up a folding card table just for puzzles and she likes to sit with me and occasionally I sneak a piece in front of her and it just tickles her no end to fit it in. Best of luck with the exercising. I went to Curves last year, but when it got cooler nobody wanted the AC or fans on and I couldn't breathe. I had to quit and I lost a lot of my membership dues. Now I'm gaining weight and losing strength. Please hang in there, we'll make it. We have to! Big Hug , Joy
