Close Caregivers
I am a single mom and also work full time as a professional photographer. I am the sole caregiver to my daughter, who has spinal muscular atrophy (just like ALS, but born with) Allison is bright and brilliant, but totally physically dependent on me for all of her needs. She has never walked and uses an electric wheelchair.
Close Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
I'm a single mom who is sole caregiver to my 23 year old daughter who has SMA Type 2. Looking to make friends, share ideas, ask questions of you and hopefully answer some for those who are newly diagnosed or have younger children than my daughter.
Open Muscular Dystrophies
My daughter, age 23, has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2. She was diagnosed at age 16 months. She lives with me and I am her sole caregiver. Hope to network with others on new treatments, how to cope not only with the physical needs but also the emotional stresses.
Open Bereavement
Type: Loss of a ParentMy Mother passed May 24th, 2007 from brain cancer. I was holding her hand when she left us. I am grateful for that because she was there for me when I drew my first breath and I was there for her when she took her last. It is still unreal and I catch myself thinking things like "oh. Mom will know" . Sometimes I say to my daughter, "She really died, didn't she?". We were very different people, but I loved her and know that she loved me.My dad is lost without her. It's just so sad to see him.
Treatments
- Crying Somewhat Helpful
- Keeping Busy Working / Worked
- I am the sole caregiver to my daughter who has a neuromuscular disease and I work full time, so keeping busy was not really a choice.
- Music Working / Worked
- I find more comfort in music than I do in words.
- Prayer Working / Worked
- Remembering Too Soon to Tell
- My dad wants us to all go the cemetery every weekend. I go when I can because I know it helps him.
Open Breakups & Divorce
Officially divorced in 1999, but it was over way before that. Biggest regret is that I didn't divorce him sooner. Spent 25 years enabling his rage, abuse and drug/alcohol addiction. When emotional abuse turned physical, I found my spine and divorced him before I became a headline. We have a physically disabled daughter and I didn't know if I could manage alone, but it got to the point that I knew whatever happened after divorce had to be better than what we were living. I was right.
Treatments
- Leave Working / Worked
- Once I finally got him out of here, I realized the extent of the abuse my children and I had been enduring. I regret that I didn't get my children away from him sooner.
Open Health Care Reform
Single mom and sole caregiver to my disabled daughter. She gets no help and my health insurance is so expensive and benefits are small. Something needs to change.
Open Diverticulitis
Was diagnosed 8/06 with diverticulosis after a sudden GI bleed that came without warning. Had a second bleed a few days ago and spent 2 nights in the hospital, monitoring hemoglobin. I just got out of the hospital yesterday (2/24/08) Just looking for answers and other's experiences.
Treatments
- High Fiber Diet Working / Worked
- Thought it was working, but had another bleed. I've never had diverticulitis...only the "osis"
- Psyllium Working / Worked
- Try to remember to drink it daily.
