    • About Me

I am 41 yrs. old, I live in the San Francisco East Bay with my husband of four years and two dogs. I love having ample access to the outdoors, great food and spiritually oriented friends. I am a psychotherapist by training, but currently not working. We did four IVF cycles, five transfers and had 3 miscarriages with my eggs. We switched to using a donor and got pregnant with twins on our first transfer. Hoping they stick and that we all survive a high risk pregnancy!

    • Close Infertility
      Type: Ovarian Issues

Pregnant at 38 after two months trying. No fetal pole at first ultrasound. D&C one week later. Then no success after over two years trying to get pregnant. Diagnoed with PCO, though no consensus among dr.'s on this. Did Femera (Letrozol) and IUI's 5 months. One gonadotropin cycle aborted bec. I hypertimulated. One IVF cycle produced 49 eggs and 15 Grade 1 embryos. Mysteriously, none of them took! 2nd cycle, same, except PGD testing revealed poor egg quality. 1 more fresh cycle pending.

      Treatments

      Artificial Insemination Not Working
Tried three times with at-home mid-wife spinning hte sperm and administering the IUI. Once with gonadotropins, hyperstimulated and had to stop cycle.

      Clomid Somewhat Helpful
Actually took Femera (letrozol) which was successful in getting me to ovulate, but not conceive.
      Follistim Somewhat Helpful
I'm highly sensitive. 75 IUI shots per night grew 75 follicles first time!
      Metformin Too Soon to Tell
Supposed to help with miscarriage for PCO folks. Hasn't helped so far.
      In Vitro Fertilization Not Working
Starting third cycle. After one fresh and four frozen transfers, no luck. Genetic teesting revealed high chromosomal abnormality, in spite of almost 50 eggs at each retrieval and great looking embryos! Starting third and final cycle now 10/18/07
    • Close Pregnancy After Loss/Infertility

I am currently pregnant with twins from a donor IVF cycle. We tried to conceive naturally, with IUI's, with IVF for three years. Four IVF cycles, three miscarriages! Considered adoption from Ethiopia seriously, then landed on a donor cycle.

    • Open Families & Friends Of Addicts

I first went to AlAnon meetings ten years ago. I have attended off and on since then, also going to SLAA meetings. When I started meetings and also quit smoking, my life began to change. I am now in a marriage with a workaholic who is crashing into depression, but still with lots of denial. I can see how all my codependent/alanon stuff is coming up and I need help!

      Treatments

      Al-Anon Working / Worked
Need to strengthen my capacity to let go, surrender, and have faith.
      Patience Working / Worked
Certainly works! When I can surrender and let it take over!
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
Have been in therapy for years. Has helped enormously.
      Talking Working / Worked
Helps to get guidance from others in recovery. Especially when I lose perspective.
      Reading Working / Worked
Sometimes reading about addiction helps. Sometimes it can become a symptom of my own addiction.
