    • About Me

I was diagnosed with scoliosis in my pre-teen years. I wore a back brace 23 hrs a day for a few years. By the age of 14 the drs told my mom that I would likely need surgery. At such a young age I did not understand the magnitude of my problem. And my family decided against the surgery. Throughout my life, since developing scoliosis, I have had daily pain. Sometimes if I would injure a muscle in my back I would have worse (than normal) pain but I can't remember ever being pain free. Within the last 6 months my normal day to day pain has escalated to the point of being unbearable at times. I did finally go to an orthopedic specialist who gave me the dire news that I definitely will have to have surgery in order to stop the progression of my curves. I have an S curve with each curve being upwards of 80degrees. When I see the Xrays I wonder how I'm even able to walk. Currently I'm trying to decide when to have the surgery - which has led me to this website in search of someone who has experienced this severe surgery as an adult. No offense teens, but you do heal quicker and rebound faster than the older generation. :)

Well, seems like having to choose the lessor of two evils... but the surgery will help in the long run. Best to you.
