What a beautiful morning! Mood
Sunday, July 5, 2009 | A General Update story

I had an awful night trying to sleep last night....I would get a few minutes sleep and then be awake for at least a 1/2 hours.  So as soon as there was enough light in the sky, I got up.  So as not to wake Bear, I went out to do my morning prayers and get the watering done.

What an absolutely wonderful morning!  The clouds that have been lingering around creating humidity and holding the heat in had cleared during the night and it was actually cool this morning....in the upper 70s.  The 3 owls were still out making their last round of hunting for the night.  My grandmother used to tell me the sound the owls make is telling their prey "quick quick quick.....run for your home."  And if you listen to them, you can hear them saying "quick quick quick".  The sound sends my smallest dog running to the house or to me....whichever is closest.  After dark, his name is changed from Yona to Owl Bait because the owls see him as just another snack.

There was a cool breeze blowing and the air smelled so good and clean.  As I wet down the desert ground around my cactus and garden, the smell of warm, damp earth wafted around me.  A smell you learn to recognize and appreciate, living in the desert.  My cactus are blooming and so are my gourds.  I have some corn I need to get into the ground....blue corn, some Hopi corn and some other kind.  Everything in my garden are heritage plants from the southwest native peoples.  Highly drought resistant.

The boys....my sons and nephews came out and built a trellis shade over my garden so it doesn't take near the water to came the plants going and Bear has set up an automatic system for me for when we are gone for whatever reason.  I do the watering myself when I'm home.

That's MY TIME!  Early moring, just as the sun puts light in the sky, the coolest part of a desert day.  Just me, the Creator and my critters.....both wild and pets.  One dog goes and literally picks a grapefruit or orange off a tree and brings it to me to throw it for her.  One stands there and barks wanting to play too.  This brings all the cats out....I've lost count on the cats but they are working cats.  I don't have mouse or rat problems any more.  Only 2 of them are "inside" cats, the rest are outside cats and quite wild...until it comes to feeding time.  LOL  And of course, that happens right after I finish playing with the dogs and watering everything down.  So they all come out and entertain me while I finish my work.

I will always probably be a morning person.  Growing up on a farm/ranch, in order to get my morning chores done, bathe, eat breakfast and walk to the bus stop, I've always had to get up early.  Once we moved out here, I was doing the same thing again in order to get the boys up and moving for school and work.  No matter how badly I hurt, I always get up out of bed and do that.  I may go back to bed once its done, but my day is not complete without my morning time.

Gotta finish filling out my SSDI papers today.  Wish me luck!  This is my second time around.  First time I didn't fight it because Bear was still working and money was not that big of an issue.  NOW, it is fixin' to become an issue with Bear's early retirement.  We just found out that he is also eligible for unemployment since the city forced his early retirement.   So hopefully between unemployment, retirement and SSDI, we will be able to have enough money to breathe.  His retirement is just barely gonna cover the bills.  Thank goodness they are covering our medical for the rest of our lives....and soon we will have Medicare to cover our unreimbursed medical espenses.

That damn dragon has a grip on my neck and causing me headaches.  Can't seem to get him to turn lose.

I am so envious of anyone who happily gets up in the morning! I wake up groggy no matter how much sleep I've had, and my biggest challenge each day is just mustering the will to get out of bed and do what I need to do.

I know there are those who would call that "lazy" but it's a very real physical challenge for me - always has been. The few times I've been somewhere that there are really spectacular sunrises, such as over the water, I've been fortunately to open my eyes in time to see the beauty, but even then I roll over and go back to sleep.

    Enjoy your day!

Hi there! I didn't sleep well either and ended up getting out of bed at 4. I watched the day become lighter while reading the local papers!
I am also a morning person, i try to get my hard stuff done early in the morning because by 11-12, I'm worn out. Today I got out my Jack Lalanne juicer and made Watermelon/pineapple/apple juice for my guys, and I added some ginger in mine! yumms!
My Dragon also curls around my neck and causes massive headaches...I go to the Chiro when it gets really bad, and it helps a little.
I'm going to ask the office manager in September, if I can only work 4 days a week, with Weds being off. I'm having a really hard time working full time, I'm totally exhausted and have no energy on the weekends, when it's time to be with my family. I just can't do it anymore.
Oh dear, I just realised I've been rambling...hee hee hee...enjoy!

Cheers from one morning person to another. I love the mornings. I get everything done that I need to and then I can do more or relax the latter part of the day. YUM that juice that snausages22 talks about sounds wonderful. I believe it is very expensive to use juicers as they take so much fruit to make a cup of juice. My son got into that but then he hasn't used it much since. Too bad. They are very expensive.

Basket I'm glad to hear that you are getting up in the mornings and it sounds like you are a happy camper this morning even though you have a headache. Have a great week and hopefully your pain levels will settle down.

I love the morning. Since early childhood, I've gotten up no later than 6 a.m. but more like 4 a.m. because I love to be out before the sun rises. These past 2 years of so, I've been unable to get out of bed before 9 or 10 a.m. and sometimes not 'til noon. I love the night too, but I miss the morning and the first birdsong.
