I too have TS and OCD. I know it is scary. Know that we are not alone on this. My psychologist said OCD and Tourettes are so close to each other that it is difficult to separate them. Not sure. My medication calms me down and a general positive outlook helps definitely. Blessings

Oh, I'm so glad you shard those thoughts! Yes! I go thru a lot of that all of the time - it almost hurts not being "me". I couldn't describe it before, but you hit it right on - thank you for that. You have just helped me out.

Close Tourette Syndrome & Tic Disorders
Diagnosed with Ts at 13, OCD at 22, Depression not until late 20s but never adequately treated till age 40
Treatments
- Clonidine Not Working
- On this all through high school. May have worked a little, but then Tics got worse and needed something else
- Haldol Not Working
- Stop tics , but everything else, too. Hated it. Had fits of uncontrollable anger, loss of eye muscle control, stopped menstruating, stopped sweating, had distonic reaction, all aroung EVIL stuff. But from the dark ages of early TS treatment.
- Orap Not Working
- Nightmare. Idiot neurologist put me on it then I went 150 miles away to college. Dropped out because of depression side effect.
- Risperdal Working / Worked
- Had it prescribed, but didn't take it...was terrified of side effects. Plus, it was given to counteract the increase in tics from the upping of my Prozac. Craziness! Didn't agree with doctor. Currently seeking another opinion.
Close Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
I was diagnosed with Tourettes at 13 but the OCD wasn't diagnosed until I was in my early twenties. It drives me crazy in ways I never knew it could. Sometimes, I hate it more than the Tourettes!
Treatments
- Prozac Somewhat Helpful
- Been on this since my diagnosis, more than 15 years ago. Works, but I thought I maybe needed a higher dose. Tried it and it made my tics MUCH worse. (they didn't tell me this could happen, though they appeared not surprised by it.)
