I see it has been almost six months since I posted in My Journal here. I had been doing pretty good. I took a 4000 mile road trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin to meet with my children and grandchildren and hold a Memorial Service for my husband in the church we belonged to for many years.
After I got back home I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee. The rehab for the knee was going along very well with lots of compliments from people about how well I was doing. The major problem was the difficulties I was having with my digestive system which I think were brought on by the pain medications I received after surgery.
My appetite would fluctuate and finally last Sunday I had constant pain the symptoms were just like the diverticulitis attacks I had two years ago. I had surgery to remove a portion of my colon and reattach it two years ago. The diagnosis was diverticulitis which is very disheartening as I had hoped those problems would be over after the surgery.
My husband died this week of metastatic Bladder Cancer. He is now free of pain.
My thanks to the people of Daily Strength for their care and support. Julie
My husbands power wheel chair arrived this week. Now I have to arrange for a ramp on the house and some way of getting the wheel chair in our minivan. I see a lot of lifts on the back of vehicles that hold a scooter or a wheel chair but I don't think I would do well with additional length added. We saw a person who had a hoist in his vehicle that lifted up the wheelchair and swung it around to get in the vehicle. A portable folding ramp would have to be minimum 8 feet to work on our house and would really be too long for the minivan.
He had his first Thoracic Epidural Steroid shot Thursday. We found out that he will be getting a series of injections He is still taking Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. He is eating a little better but still nowhere near as much as he used to eat. The weight loss is stopped for now. He still can sit and do nothing for hours especially when he is supposed to be taking his medications. Sometimes he thinks he has answered me when in fact he has said nothing.
Today I went to church with a friend. We are going to all 3 local churches in our denomination to see which one feels the best. It is a hard decision as they all have very good qualities.

Oxycodone use to make dad hullicinate as well. He swore he was in other places or would try to hammer something but his hands were always working. Sometimes he'd just open his eyes and continue with the conversation he seemed he was actually having with me. I can relate.
As for the churches...take your time because this is the one place you don't want to go wrong. This is the time you need the most support and you need to feel the love from the pastor.
Has your husband ever been prescribed...MEGACE or MEGESTROL? If not, you may want to talk to your doctor about it. It comes in liquid form which taste AWFUL and pills which may be better. Anyhow, this is for when they have weightloss and aren't too hungry. It will open the appetite and it has CONCENTRATED CALORIES...so if he misses a meal at the very least this will help to maintain him, which is so important.
Good luck with the power wheel chair...I'm not experienced in this. I hope and pray that it will work out for you somehow.
Hugs!
