On December 19th I had a CT Scan with contrast to see if cancer had reappeared were they had removed a tumor from my left kidney.
This is a scary test because the contrast material they use can shut down your kidneys totally.
They admitted me to the hospital 24hrs before the test and gave me IV saline solution to help hydrate me. This makes it better to be able to flush out the contrast from your system.
I also had some foul tasting medicine I had to take a few times before and after the scan.
After the scan I stayed in the hospital and they continued the IV drip for another 12hrs.
The test came back with the wonderful results of "No New Growth ".
They drew blood before and after the scan and again after the second 12hr drip. The kidney did just fine, it was able to expell the contrast solution with no problem. Thank God.
They tried to check for any growth by using a MRI scan, this can give a good nreading without contrast and is the prefered way.
I was unable to fit into the small openning of the MRI so the CT with contrast had to be done.
This test had to be done to make sure nothing was growing on my one remaining kidney.
I wanted to share this with you all so you would know this procedure is done often with out any side affects. Don't go into a panic like I did and fill you head with "what if" thoughts that won't happen.
I will have one of these scans yearly for the rest of my life, but I won't allow fear to over come me.
I wish you all the best
Don

Good advice. Thank you. I was scared and worried concerning my 3 month followup scans but they came back normal. A lot of worry for nothing.
