Close ADHD / ADD
I have a teenage son (17) he has been diagnosed with ADHD since he was 6. I have read all the books, gone to all the doctor appointments, listened to the therapist,and gone to all the school meetings (IEP and Teacher Conferences, ect.)
Treatments
- Adderall Working / Worked
- worked for awhile, but had issues with keeping weight on and sleeping problems.
- Behavior Management Not Working
- He would just give up on himself and others. Told them what they wanted to hear so he wouldn't have to discuss the issue anymore.
- Clonidine Not Working
- Concerta Working / Worked
- We added Concerta with his Strattera and it seems to be working for now. He seems so focused and able to deal with what life has coming at him.
- Music Somewhat Helpful
- It gets him to do his homework sometimes.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- He tells them what they want to hear.
- Research Working / Worked
- Worked for me to understand more about what is going on with him but really didn't help with him. Still looking for ways to help him and his behaviors.
- Ritalin Working / Worked
- Didn't like the side effects. He was on this medication from 6 yrs - 12 yrs of age without breaks.
- Strattera Working / Worked
- Currently taking 100mg. but because of he is at the lower end of the weight scale for this med we have to keep and eye on his weight.
- Wellbutrin Working / Worked
- Made my son feel disconnected from his day.

- Seems to be working my blood pressures have been lower than before.

- No real change in leg and ankle swelling.

- Hate it and wish I didn't have to use it, hate wearing the mask. Allot of times I find the mask off and or blowing in my ear.

Open Sexual Abuse
Sexually abused by my step-father from age 6 yrs till 15 yrs old. He was arrested and found guilty, then sentenced for only 5 yrs.

- Courts made me go to counceling, but I couldn't stand to talk about my childhood.
Open Parents of Children with ADHD
My son has been diagnosed with ADHD since he was 6 years old, he will be graduating High School in 2009. We have tried different types of medications, books and professional therapist to help him with controlling the ADHD and other life issues. We have been also dealing with other issues such as Antisocial, Stealing, Lying and what I think is a sexual obsession. We are unable to get all of the above under control...frustrated and need some support.
Open Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
My 17 year old son was diagnosed at 6 yrs old with ADHD and later at age 13 was officially diagnosed with ODD.
Treatments
- Child Time-out Not Working
- It was more like playtime than time out for him, nothing worked, sitting at the table, standing at the wall and quiet time to think about what he did wrong. NOTHING worked he would do his time sometimes, or walk away even climb out his bedroom window on on the roof to talk to other kids when he was suppose to be sitting in time - out.
- Talking Not Working
- He would look at you while talking with a blank stare not really listening to you like talking to a brick wall.
- Anger Management Not Working
- When he was younger now he just tells doctors and teachers what they want to hear and it works the leave him alone and no more discussion.
Open Migraine Headaches
I've had migraines since puberty they came on really heavy when I would be menstrating, doctor's said they would go away along with the really bad cramping after I had kids..they lied! I have found that I have triggers and have been successful with not having a migraine escape me in over 4 yrs now.

- Caffeine Not Working
- found it to be a trigger along with Soy.
- Demerol Working / Worked
- Only at hosptial would I recieve a shot, other wise I do not take the medication unless the headaches are really bad.
- Excedrin Not Working
- Imitrex Somewhat Helpful
- I hated the side effects, felt like someone was choking me.
- Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
- If taken early it might help keep a migraine at bay but if taken just a late I'm done for.
- Pamelor Working / Worked
- Worked for awhile then stopped working.
- Promethazine Somewhat Helpful
- Takes care of my nausea.
- Tylenol Not Working
