    • Close Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

My 85 yr old Mother died sitting in a chair saying her rosary. She was not ill, but was bed-bound for 2 years. Her death was unexpected and wonderful. Two weeks before her death, I called her. Without saying my name, she said, "It's a miracle you called, I have something very important to tell you." "i love you, i love you, i love you." "i know Mom." She said it 3'xs in a row. It was our secret code. I'm 49 and spent years of therapy discovering just that. She loved me! #7

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
I cry easily now, 5 months later, I know I need to accept this is normal. It helps!
      Helping Others Working / Worked
In very small doses, I like to advocate for the elderly, but I'm not really there yet. I need more time to heal before I can give to others. However, I know it will eventually be what ultimately the best remedy for the long-term.
      Keeping Busy Working / Worked
Reading, making healthy meals, gardening, and spending time with my son. It really helps because my Mom was a "memory maker." I want to be one too!
      Music Working / Worked
My Christian music station, 105.3 FM Seattle, is great. Singing children's hymns with my son is the Best!
      Prayer Working / Worked
The best of all strategies!!! Jesus comforts me, assures me she is with me, and whispers in my ear a Bible verse that that confirms without a doubt that we are all together, spiritually.
      Reading Working / Worked
Reading the Bible, Christian romances, and journalling is more helpful that I can describe.
      Remembering Working / Worked
A montage photos on a DVD of Mom & Dad, and their 8 children and grandchildren. Remembering all she did, especially with all her suffering, She left a legacy that has influenced all of my being!
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
I'ts too early to discuss all my feelings. I get sick to my stomach and weak when I talk about my Mom. I'm sure it will improve as I move through the grief process.
      Talking Too Soon to Tell
      Sometime later it will help.
      Time Working / Worked
Spending time alone. My husband has be wonderful doing things with our son that allows me time ti be alone. I don't even have to ask, he just knows!
