Journal Entry for October 17, 2007 Mood
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
This has been a trying day. We have 3 wonderful dogs, 2 standard poodles and a greatdane/lab mix. Late this afternoon I let the poodles out as they don't run off. They usually stay out about 15-20 minutes just running around getting their exercise as one just turned a year old, Seamus, and the 9 year old , Yogi. The great dane , Dina, is a runner,  she has to be taken out on a leash. I can't do it because she's too strong for me to control. My son took her out and Seamus showed up and wanted to play. Well, Dina pulled so hard on the leash that she got away. Both of them started running toward the road. They've never done this as we live on over an acre. The worst happened. Both of them got hit by seperate cars. Seamus got clipped and was thrown about 15 feet. That car kept going. Dina got t-boned, and he stopped. She has blood coming out of one eye and was coughing up blood. We rushed both of them to the vet. Luckily 2 vets were on call. Seamus is going  to make it, but Dina is in critical condition.  They are both still there. Seamus can come home tomorrow, but if Dina makes it through the next couple of days, she'll survive. They said in 25 years they've never had a family bring in 2 dogs who were hit at the same time. My son is devasted as are my husband and I. We had to move Dina from the vet to an emergency clinic so someone could watch her all night. Their fee for the night $800. That's not the vet bill. And we'll have to do this for 3 nights. Hindsight -should have put in the invisible fence. But we were waiting until we had the extra $. Now we really don't have it. It's amazing how much we love our pets. pray for their recovery.

I'm a dog lover too. I know it's hard to see your pets hurt, not to mention the money.
I'll be saying prayers for all of you as I wish for a happy outcome.
    Hugs,
