i am 35 with 2 children, 10 and 14. i was diagnosed with narcolepsy 7years ago, and in the past 4 years have had to make serious changes in my life as a result. i recently got married to a wonderful supportive man who still wanted to be with me even though i'd just been diagnosed with narcolepsy. we have been trying for a child for 3yrs with no success, not sure yet if this is linked to my condition and no-one seems to have the answers. i struggled through childhood with a cleft lip and palate and at 28 thought my days of people pointing, staring and ridiculing were over. now i have to deal with a new generation of ignorant people, and whats worse is this time it isn't kids. going day to day with public narcoleptic and cataplectic attacks is much harder to deal with. people automatically assume you're drunk or worse. its embarrassing for my children aswell. i feel extremely guilty when it happens when i'm out with them. they assure me its ok but it can't be nice for them having to sit on a bus listening to somebody slate their mother for something they know i can't help. i have a very supporting family but sometimes i feel the need to talk to someone who knows how i feel. so i joined this site in the hope of meeting people with similar problems.

hi i'm cally, i went to the doctors 6 years ago thinking i was just anneamic, my g.p thought otherwise and referred me to a neurologist after numerous frightening tests it was confirmed i was narcoleptic. since that time myself, my fiance and my two kids have struggled to come to terms with the impacts of my condition.
i was born with a cleft lip and palate, or a hare lip as they used to call it when i was born. i had constructive surgery the first being at 3months old and the last when i was 16. i don't have any issues with my own cleft but am happy to help if i can any one who wants to talk to a veteran!lol.
