Thanks for your info on the surgery. I think it helps many of of us with our decisions. I have heard from many that surgery has not helped and even made it worse.

Mrs J, Just wanted to let you know that I care about what you are going through. My husband is in a similar situation so I have a good idea of the suffering and loss you must feel having your life so radically changed. I hope you can find strength from those who love you. I don't know if you believe in God but I do and will be praying for you.

    • Close Back Pain

Back 7 years ago, I had excrusiating pain in groin and down my rt leg. Since I have had a laminectomy, following year, fusion of L4-S1. Since I've lived with chronic pain and have several types of treatments done with no success. My last is nerve stimulator, and as yet, have found no relief with having. Still depend on pian medication to get me through the day-barely. I'm quite discouraged and about given up finding relief, EVER!

      Treatments

      Bedrest Not Working
Helped but does little for lasting relief.
      Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
Because of fusion, can't have any major adjustments. But did help with working out muscle knots allowing me more flexibilty. No long lasting relief.
      Cortisone (Injection) Not Working
I have had several series of this treatment with no success.
      Epidural Injection Not Working
      Same as with cortisone treatment.
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
It relaxes me but has no lasting effects.
      Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
I've been on for over 6 years-takes away the severity but not all pain.
      Morphine Somewhat Helpful
oxycodone-again, takes the intensity away, but need each dosage every day, to get through the day.
      Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
Following my last surgery did give me more flexibilty, but nothing lasting
      Stretching Somewhat Helpful
Helps with gaining some flexibilty but doesn't last with pain escalating through the day
      Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
I had several done, with no relief.
    • Close Chronic Pain

I had a fusion from L4-S1 in Oct. of 2001. Since, I have lived in chronic pain. This has affected nearly everything I once did and enjoyed. My quality of life is very low, which depresses me. I was once quite active. Now walking from one room to the next is a real effort. I can't do alot of things that I really wish I could-and did hope I would again. I'm tired of living on medication-before this I rarely took a aspirin-nothing really has helped.

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
I can't remember what its called-but the tabled moved. Because of fusion can't have adjustments. She did work on my muscle knots-which I had many and that did help but was told there wasn't much more she could do for me so haven't been back.
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
      didn't help-insurance wouldn't cover
      Flexeril Working / Worked
      I'm not sure-is this a muscle relaxant-if so I take skelaxin 800 mgs 3 times a day-don't see any big improvements.
      Heat Working / Worked
      works only temporarily
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
I have been on this since the start of back problems 6 years ago and feel I have a high tolerance with. I do take still, 2 mid day (500mg)-oxycodone doesn't get me through the day. Again only helps with intensity.
      Lidoderm Working / Worked
I think it might, but I think I'm allergic to-I itch real bad and skin breaks out.
      Lyrica Working / Worked
Suggested but insurance wouldn't cover, so haven't tried.
      Marijuana Working / Worked
I have never tried this but have thought seriously about trying-I've been told by others it works.
      Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
      didn't help!
      Neurontin Working / Worked
I've been taking 300mgs 3 times a day-they just this week increased to 600mgs. 3 times a day-haven't seen any real difference with pain.
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
Helps take the intensity away some but not long lasting.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
Only time it was suggested was soon after fusion-which helped me gained strength back to my legs, but since has not been suggested to continue with.
      TENS Working / Worked
I have just recently had one installed. We haven't as yet, found a program that works for me-we are still trying.
      Topamax Working / Worked
      Tried-didn't help at all-quit taking.
      Swimming Working / Worked
2 years ago, I went to Y faithfully throughout the winter months (late Oct thru April) 3 days a week. I didn't see where it helped me much at all, other than it did get me out of house (hate winters and hibernate usually)
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
I quit taking (with doctors aid). they kept increasing it and was up to 150mgs a day. All I wanted to do was sleep and felt I was more depressed than I was without it. And do feel much better in that aspect since quitting it-didn't help with pain at all!!
    • Open Infidelity

My husband cheated on me, 2 years ago-I still hurt alot. It started with emails through a high school reunion type of website. they dated through highschool and were engaged-but fell through. This was 30 years ago or more. she was going thru divorce and contacted him! I found out by finding the emails. He ended it right there-but it did go further then emails! I was totally devastated by my find and still hurt. I had so much trust and faith in him, and feel so betrayed and used!

      Treatments

      Forgiveness Somewhat Helpful
I still have many moments of feeling betrayed and don't fully believe all he's told me.
