Okay, so i know that people are ignorant. It shows everyday. People don't know the difference in anything anymore. But seriously, this takes the cake of all ignorance.
I'm taking this Health and Wellness class. Only counts as one credit, but is required for most degrees. Just like 9th grade health.... ugh.
So today we were talking about the leading causes of death in the United States. You know, like Heart disease, Cancer, Stroke, Diabettes, Alzheimer's, etc. And one of the categories was suicide, but instead of just saying suicide, it said
Intentional self-harm (suicide).
Honestly? Can you really be that ignorant? I mean, since we are talking about deaths, it kinda makes sense....but not really. Intentional self-harm (also known as self-injury) is a lot different than suicide. SI can be like cutting, hitting, punching, hair pulling, etc. Those are a lot different than suicide, the actual want/desire to die, and do. Many people SI daily, yet do not attempt suicide, or even have suicidal behaviors. My therapist was telling me, in like 8th grade, that you can have one without the other, easily. and he declared me that i did have one and not the other. That I was cutting, and did not have any suicidal behaviors. that was proven wrong later, but it's a different story.
Am I the only one who thinks this textbook, and my teacher, is wrong, or do others agree with me? I'd like to hear some comments, debates, etc.

You are right. Upon reading about this on the web, my guess is they forgot to use the word "and". If I understand correctly, maybe with attempted suicide if they don't die they call it Intentional Self Harm (suicide). That is, of course, differ from intentional self harm like cutting etc. So prehaps your teacher needed to say suicide and intentional self harm suicide.
Hit me up if you want to talk about this more. God loves you....
