Journal Entry for October 10, 2008 Mood

I'm back in the UK.. in London with Ella.. and marvelling at all that I have been through during my amazing trip..  so much to share and to tell everyone that I won't shut up about it for at least a lifetime..  I'm a huge fan of America and the American people now.. I knew I was in the uk when I went shopping for some milk and the shop staff didn't greet me or even look up from the till..  we allways have some catching up to do with America here and I can't wait till the folk here catch on to being so friendly and wellcoming..  makes the day so much brighter.. we will get there.. eventually..

My last day with Lindamae was very special for me..  She and Mac had been haveing a difficult time whilst I was there.. with the death of Mac's father being so sudden..  yet they made me feel so comfortable and wellcome..   We shared some very special times that will stay with me forever..  My last day was spent around Hillsborough.. their local town..  antique markets.. which I love and lunch at a wonderful tea house where I was served the best cup of English tea I have ever had.. in a really pretty floral tea cup and saucer.. just the way it should be..  Then hoem to Lindamaes.. packing and making sure I had everything organised etc..  I went into my auto pilot mode as I do when having to do difficult things that I don't want to be doing..

The flight to Chicago went by very quickly and was comfortable enough..  Chicago was huge and a bit scary for me.. Bonny had booked me into a fabulous hotel right in the centre of everything..  but I never feel that comfortable in hotels and the grander they are the more strange I feel..  Just not used to living it up to that degree and worry about giving the right tips and doing things right instead of just relaxing and enjoying  the experience..  but I did try and availed myself of the facilities as best I could..  The House of Blues was right on the doorstep so I went there for diner and to listen to a very good band.. really pleased that I did that as that is what visiting Chicago is for.. The next morning I spent a couple of hours walking round some of the huge shops..  Loads of tourists everywhere and all the hustle and bustle of a huge city.. like London but a couple of hundred times more so..

Arrived in London at 6 am, an hour earlier that expected and caught a very crowded rush hour train to where Ella is.. I woke her up.. and spent the morning telling her some of all I had been up to..  then went to the Marsden for my blood test. It is so close that it was only 20 minutes before I was back again..  I have jet lag.. which I have never had before so it's really confusing me..  it's 3.30 am and I have been up since 2 am.... will go back to sleep in a minute..

Called home spoke to Bonny, Sol and Andy.. all is well there.. Andy has torn a muscle in his chest from all his body building..  so has to ease up now..  I will post some more pictures of my time with Lindamae and Chicago soon..  Loads of love and hugs to all..  Inka xxx

Hi Inca,I can't tell you how very happy I am that you enjoyed your trip to the U.S. You have seen and done things that I havn't. When you come back you will have to come and see me in Arizona. Now that would really be differant for you. It would need to be in the fall or spring as it would be to hot for you in the summer. By the way, if I am feeling up to it I love to shop.
Let us know how your blood test turns out.
This is my week free of chemo. and dr. appts. so I am feeling real good. I'm going to drive to my grandaughters tomorrow and spend the day with her and the baby so I'm looking forward to that. She live aprox. 50 miles from me but it is a real nice drive. Hope you can recouperate from the jet lag soon. I went to Europe several years ago and it took me a couple days to feel normal again when I got back. Take Care, carol

So glad to hear that you are home safe and sound! I kept imagining where you'd be at a given time...until I knew you'd be on the plane back home.
Too bad I'd forgotten your flight number as I could have "tracked" you on the computer.

I went and got my bloodwork done today (instead of Monday) so that I can drive down to Eugene on Monday and stay the night. Just have been missing those two grandchildren too much! Dr. appointment on Thursday morning. (and chemo, yuck!) I'm sure my nurses will ask if you got home safe.
It was such a miracle to have met and spent all that time together. I sniffed the crab shell today and realized it is still pretty stinky. Perhaps I can find some website about what to do to preserve it. We shall see.
I am very tired today after a pretty busy day. I had to take my car for inspection and do some grocery shopping. Tonight I cooked up my version of the "Hungarian Mushroom Soup" that we had at the tea house. It was quite nice, and Mac said it tasted great.
Well, just wanted to let you know that I am happy that you are safe and sound. Miss you! Hope you adjust to the time difference quickly. Are you going to get to see Monica? Hope so!
    hugs and love, lindamae

I too am happy you made it home safe and sound. I am sure your feet haven't touched the ground yet. You have been on a whirlwind trip. So wonderful. I don't blame you for being scared in Chigago, especialy being there by yourself, but yet another memory for you. Sending you positive vibes for your blood test. I too hope you get to see Monica. Much love and hugs.

I'm so glad you made it home safely and are adjusting to the time change. I'm sure it will take a week or so to get back on UK time. I so much wish we could of went to Chicago with you as we had planned. When I was going to get my tickets was Saturday and Ma was failing then. Tell Monica hello and give her a real hug for me.........Thank you for the great times. Loads of love and hugs to you....Beth

Welcome back to the UK Inka and glad you had a safe flight back. I expect you're still on cloud nine after all your wonderful experiences and seeing great friends in the USA. I know what you mean by the surliness of British shop assistants and waiters/waitresses. I remember when we went to Florida a few yrs ago and noticed how friendly all the waitresses were and so helpful....nothing was too much trouble.
I would have been apprehensive if I was on my own in Chicago too....you were very brave.
Looking forward to seeing more of your pics.....take good care of yourself.
Love and big hugs, Gill xx
