some days ur the rabbit, others ur the pancake.
finished the tulsa run 15k on Halloween Day. thought i'd PR, but started getting nauseous around the 6 mile mark from that f*cking alleged "energy bar" from Snickers. Goddamn glorified candy bar. Violated the cardinal rule of race day --do nothing new -- and paid for it. the nausea slowed me down by 8 minutes over last year's time.
Still ran a respectable (for me) 1:51. Up next, McNellie's Pub Run next weekend, then the "Big One"... Route 66 Half-marathon. Not trying for a PR this time because I now realize the time off I had this summer from the foot injury really affected my fitness level. Hey, it happens. I'm thankful that I can at least run the race. In July, I wasn't even sure if I'd be able to race at all this year.
Visited the psychiatrist (Pdoc for short) yesterday. A new one who was recommended highly by another. Why, you ask? February was a rough month for me. Near-immobilizing depression had me in a deathgrip. My wife was very worried, as wives are wont to do.
So, not knowing what else to do, I made an appointment -- last month. It took me another 3 weeks to actually get an appointment. That was yesterday. Not much to say, though. It was merely an intake session meaning even after I completed the 4-page medical history, I spent the whole session basically rehashing what I wrote.
I'm sure it was necessary to hear my tale of woe in my own words, but at the rates Pdoc's charge can't he at least read what I wrote and ask me to fill in the details. Well, maybe that's what he did. Who knows.
At any rate, we concluded the session arriving at 3 options: 1) bump my existing dose of Cymbalta because the low incidence of known side-effects, 2) supplement it with Lamictal, or 3) switch to Lamictal altogether.
We decided on #1. Session over, see ya in 3 weeks.
Feeling very low-energy today. Got what I thought was plenty of sleep. But I woke up a couple of times in the night for no apparent reason. Can get to sleep just fine, it's the staying asleep part that seems impaired. Woke around 6.30am ready to go. By 8.30, I was ready to head back to bed and the day had just started! At this rate, it's gonna be a long day.
Well, I'll take it as it comes. I have my Tuesday night run at 5.30pm, let's see if that pumps enough endorphins to pull me out of this slump.
Oh, btwn it's hazy overcast and 37F. Supposed to get to almost 60F, but it's not there yet. We'll see.
