Close Physical & Emotional Abuse
My parents emotionally and spiritually abused me from the time I was a teenager. I was the scapegoat of the family although I was a model straight A student. I developed epilepsy and they believed I was demon possessed . I had brain surgery but they told the community I was crazy. They now have abandoned me and shun me from all family gatherings although I am financially independent and academically successful. They tell my daughter I am crazy and attempt to keep her from speaking to me.
Treatments
- Abuse Counseling Not Working
- My first counselor was great, but he retired. My second one bought into the family system and scapegoated me. I was left traumatized.
- Forgiveness Working / Worked
- I work on forgiveness daily and try to love unconditionally. I will not live in bitterness.
- Leave Working / Worked
- Music Working / Worked
- I listen to music on forgiveness and unconditional love daily. It is a great help.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- The counselor I went to just had a 30 hour masters and bought into the family system. I felt further scapegoated and blamed for having epilepsy.
- Education (School) Working / Worked
- I read on family systems and abuse therapy. This helps tremendously. I am earning a Ph.D. in Neuroscience to understand epilepsy and help others.
- Talking Working / Worked
- I talk with a close friend, but do not have any one who understands being a survivor of abuse and I do not want to burden anyone
Close Family Issues
My family has continued to abandon me throughout my life. I am the scapegoat of the family. Although I have 3 post grad degrees and am successful they continue to find reasons not to speak to me and exclude me from family events and holidays. They first abandoned me when I was diagnosed with epilepsy and had brain surgeries to cure the seizures. They believed I was somehow evil and crazy. They attempt to get between my daughter and I and tell people in the community that I am crazy.
Treatments
- Family Therapy Not Working
- The family went exclusively to talk about what a problem I was, never about how they may have contributed.
- Music Working / Worked
- I listen to healing music daily with themes on forgiveness, unconditional love and peace.
- Psychotherapy Not Working
- The current counselor was terrible and bought into the family system. I had a counselor when I first recovered from brain surgery that was terrific.
- Talking Not Working
- I haven't found a community to talk with about dysfunctional family issues until now.
- Writing Working / Worked
- I journal. It helps.
Open Epilepsy & Seizures
I developed temporal lobe seizures 9 years after a head injury from a car wreck. Was disabled for 3 years having 18 seizures a day. I had a non-dominant temporal lobectomy in 1990. I now only have about one tonic clonic seizure a year. I'm finishing a Ph.D. in neuroscience to help others prepare for and recover from temporal lobectomies. I am grateful for my experience with epilepsy. It has taught me compassion and empathy. Overall, I am grateful for my experience with epilepsy.

- I use it only when a tonic clonic seizure is beginning. It works to stop the seizure from spreading.

- Neurontin Not Working
- Didn't work. Had headaches.

- Cured partial complex seizures.
