About Me
I am a mother and grandmother. I was diagnosed in 1986 with Fibro, but have probably had it since I was 5 or 6 years old. I was disabled with it in 1997. Just could not keep up enough energy for the high profile position I held. It was very stressful, as well, which did not work well with my Fibro.

Close Fibromyalgia
I am a mother and grandmother. I have been disabled since 1997 with Fibro, diagnosed in 1986. I am feeling the effects more as I get older. I have a laundry list of symptoms that come with this darn disease - exhaustion, pain, restless legs, insomnia even though I am so exhausted, migraines, irritable bowel, and the list goes on. The Fibro Fog bothers me the most and was the reason I retired from being a Systems Analyst. I am doing exercise and taking a natural supplement which seems to help.
Treatments
- 5-HTP Not Working
- I did not find this therapy provided any type of relief.
- Acupuncture Not Working
- I had limited success with this therapy.
- Aqua Therapy Not Working
- While I enjoyed the time I spent in the water, I did not feel it provided additional benefits.
- Elavil Not Working
- This provided absolutely no benefits.
- Neurontin Not Working
- This was a complete disaster. It led to an attempted suicide. This drug is awful for those who are not epileptic and who are not closely monitored. I was taking 30,000 mg per day, and no one was monitoring it. The psychiatric side effects are well known. At the time the drug company knew about the side effects and kept mum.
- Zanaflex Not Working
- No change was noted with this drug.
- Lyrica Considering
- While I do not know much about Lyrica, I can tell you that Gabapentin (Neurontin), which is also an anti-seizure med, has been prescribed for Fibo patients with some successs. They said it had zero side effects, but a few years later it turned out there were serious psychological effects from it if one was not suffering from epilepsy. Since this is an anti seizure drug, and seems to have multiple side effects, I am wary of it. I will not use Neurontin, but I would probably recommend it above Lyrica. However, a doctor needs to carefully monitor you and the dosage. I would be worried about some of the same things from Lyrica. So, after a horrible experience with Neurontin, I would never use Lyrica. My opinion only.... Prayers and Hugs
