The Balkan Peninsula derives its name from the Balkan or Stara Planina mountain-range, which runs through the centre of Bulgaria and extends into eastern Serbia.

Bulgaria comprises portions of the regions known in classical times as Moesia, Thrace, and Macedonia. The mountainous southwest of the country has two alpine ranges — Rila and Pirin — and further east stand the lower but more extensive Rhodope Mountains. The Rila range includes the highest peak of the Balkan Peninsula, Musala, at 2,925 meters (9,596 ft); the long range of the Balkan mountains runs west-east through the middle of the country, north of the famous Rose Valley. Hilly country and plains lie to the southeast, along the Black Sea coast in the east, and along Bulgaria's main river, the Danube in the north

Better to light a candle for one lost animal
than to curse the darkness of man's indifference.
Saving just one animal won't change the world
but it surely will change the world for that one animal.Without us they have no voice.

   I have one of those little reminders (thanks to you) and I visit the feeding site every day. Do you have a 'Justice for Animals' group there? On their t-shirts it reads 'The greatest sin in the world..."He who does nothing because he feels he can do so little!!" Speak out for justice for animals...
   
   I like the above where you say saving one animal won't change the world, but it will change the animal's world. Never thought of it that way! I hope I have made their world as happy as they've made mine:)

   There is a story about a person walking out on the beach after a big storm. And there are thousands and thousands of star fish washed up on that beach. One person is picking these star fish up one at a time and throwing them back into the sea. Another person comes up and says "This is so stupid, don't you know you won't save them all!" The reply was "I made a big difference to that one." as they threw another one out to sea.
   It's like that in all good works. One person cannot save the world. But if we all use our talents to make the world a better place, we sure can make a big difference!
   Bless you for caring for the throw away creatures of God's world.

   we are all throw away creatures. its definitely survival of the fittest so you try to do all you can while you can, and then hope one's government provides public safety nets for the rest (which they probably don't). i love the starfish story. its in chicken soup for the soul.
