Hero dog risks life to save kittens from fire Leo refuses to leave burning building, is found guarding litter amid smoke
SYDNEY - A dog was hailed as a hero on Sunday after it risked its life to save a litter of newborn kittens from a house fire, rescuers said.
In a case which gives the lie to the saying about "fighting like cats and dogs," the terrier cross named Leo had to be revived with oxygen and heart massage after his ordeal. Fire broke out overnight at the house in Australia's southern city of Melbourne, where he was guarding the kittens.
Firefighters who revived Leo said he refused to leave the building and was found by them alongside the litter of kittens, despite thick smoke.
"Leo wouldn't leave the kittens and it nearly cost him his life," fire service Commander Ken Brown told reporters.
The four kittens also survived the fire and on Sunday Leo, whom firefighters nicknamed Smoky, was again back at the house

kind of pissy. today is tuesday. was up all night as i didn't turn on the heat because it wasn't working properly the other day. big mistake. i literally couldn't breathe and i don't have my medicine yet. don't know what box it is in. i found a small heater and put that on. and that did the trick but by then it was 4 a.m. then big wakes me before daybreak to go out and michele had already done the same, but i ignored her because she won't even go out at that time of the day anyway. she wanted to go on the other side of the house and she can't do that because the man IS HERE downstairs (even though he is not supposed to be) and he complains about noise (from the cats walking! yesterday he was claiming he can hear the kittens run across the floor playing). at 7 a.m. michele wakes me again so by then i should be okay, however, she still doesn't want to go out and was all scratchy and biting about it. this is a new thing of her's ...very testy, but she is crippled and three years old and no one has advice on them because they are so different. we don't have a vet bahaviorist here (wish we did) and the regular vets advise putting them down and getting two others. lose one get back two thing, which is biblical but not a real answer. though humane society is like there are soooo many perfect, friendly cats put down daily....anyway i have hideous scratches from her. exhaustion from not being able to breathe and improper sleep from not being able to breathe and from the animals waking me up.
the plus is i lost two pounds, which brings me down to what i was when i originally started? can't tell with this new scale because its five pounds off. i know i lost the two pounds because of the not breathing. i haven't really exercised. with michele she seems nervous to me lately though they have always been a little like that, though big was aggressive to other cats until he got fixed. i think they both miss the other place because the ground was flat there and they came and went without too much difficulty. this is duney, because its beach/intracoastal area and there is more going on in general. have no idea why they just don't stay in the yard or here and the yard behind us. i am up to either five or six boxes to catch up. big also showed up on his own last night, a surprise as he seemed to have put himself on a come back here every other day schedule, but perhaps the wind and cold bugged him. it was 55 last night. very cold for here. time to take out winter clothes. never had to do stuff like that in south florida...i resent the whole two wardrobe thing. to me its just a nuisance and it should be summer all year round.

Isn't that remarkable. Thirty plus years ago I went to bed drunk and slipped into a deep sleep. I was visting my adopted parents in the country, but stayed in a hotel in town for the weekend. There was a bad fire. I, of course, couldn't hear the alarm. I woke up, choking to a room full of smoke and my hearing dog on top of me, vehemaently clawing my chest. With my chest bleeding from his clawing me, I picked up Mickomine, a 35/40 pound Brittany, and ran out...damn scary...wonderful dog, he saved my life. He died at age 16 from a heart attack 20 years ago, I still dream of him...wonderful dreams.

Came by to see what is up. We had to cage one of our cats at night so we could sleep. The cage has food water and a litter box in it.
Oven mittens work great for handling or playing with a cat. I use them with Hobs.
Maybe you could set up a routen of the cats are caged at night and then they have outside the cage time during the day. The cages can even be lined up and left open during the day so a cat could go it it for quite or rest time if it wanted. I saw some where where cat cubicals/cat carriers where lined up on one wall and on the other side there were lines of litter boxes.
Yeah on lossing weight. I know it is hard. Keep eating sensible. Eat to live not live to eat my mum says. Better to waste than go to waist, mum says.
