    • Close HIV

Diagnosed February 1986. Biggest challenges are depression, HIV-caused depression and various side effects of the meds (which ironically also include depression). Did I mention I'm depressed?

      Treatments

      Bactrim DS Not Working
      Allergic/sensitive to sulfa drugs.
      Biaxin Somewhat Helpful
Took it during a high risk infection for as long as deemed necessary. Horrible aftertaste that actually woke me up. I had to sleep with Certs by the bed.
      Combivir Working / Worked
      Currently taking this drug
      Crixivan Not Working
Gave me what is popularly known as "Crixigas" which is about ten times worse than dog farts. I'm not kidding; I woke myself up with that smell. I had to stop taking it.
      Epivir Somewhat Helpful
I was prescribed this drug before the advent of the cocktails that included protease inhibitors and consequently the drug lost its effectiveness over time. I'm not blaming the doctors. They just didn't know any better at the time.
      Kaletra Working / Worked
Currently taking this drug. It does move the fat around in my body so I have skinny legs, no butt and a belly, and it gives me diarrhea, and it causes depression. But it has kept the viral load down.
      Norvir Somewhat Helpful
Allergic to this drug when prescribed in full dose, however I can tolerate it as a component of Kaletra.
      Retrovir Somewhat Helpful
This was my first HIV drug, before the docs knew that prescribing them 1 at a time made them ineffective over time.
      Sustiva Somewhat Helpful
A little like an acid trip the first week or so. I had to stop it because of sky-high cholesterol and triglycerides. It also gave me diarrhea and made me fat.

      Viramune Somewhat Helpful
One of the first HIV drugs to start packing the weight on me, this one also gave me such bad diarrhea that I had to go home from work at lunch time every day -- sometimes to change my pants by the time I got there! Oh, the glamour.
      Viread Working / Worked
      Currently taking this drug

    • Close Gay Men's Challenges

Gay at least since Mickey Dolenz was on TV in "The Monkees" but I didn't catch on 'til I was 22. I don't think I realized Mickey was just a mediocre drummer til I was past 40.
