Well, my fasting bg was 218. took my meds. waited a while and ate bittermelon and eggplant with fresh turmeric. some curry powder, and (not reading the ingredients label) teriyaki sauce ... you know that bittermelon can be sharp at first bite ... a while later the bg was 156. But you know, bittermelon and eggplant don't do much to fill you up, so after a while I had a sandwich. A little while later my bg was 212. Guess I asked for it. Didn't walk today at all ... still early though. I do prefer to walk after dark or first thing in the morning. Don't know why. Maybe it is the quiet. Dark and quiet. It helps me to walk the dog. The new one. The older one is too hard. He still pulls so hard and hurts me and I can hear him gasping for breath and he still won't stop pulling. The new one, he does really well for a puppy ... I have been walking, out of doors and on the treadmill. But it does not seem to be helping. I have an appt soon with the Dr. am going to request again the insulin that he actually had written the prescription and handed it to me and then took it away .... said he did not want to over medicate me ... but I guess having 357 bg is ok .... hmmm. I will take my walk with the 74 pound puppy tonight and hope it will be an enjoyable walk ... many people stop and talk to me about him ... he is yellow and white, he is a collie mix and yesterday in fifteen minutes he learned to shake hands and now he waves all by himself and he is so-o-o-o-o proud of himself ... he is funny ....

Right back at'cha. Bittermelon looks like a bumpy cucumber, light green in color. I have found it at the market I go to, but mostly it will be in Asian Markets. It has been used in Asian Medicine to keep from getting diabetes, (I believe it was) and for lowering blood sugar in diabetics. Which it seemed to do today until I ate the sandwich. I had it twice today. I purchased Japanese eggplant and bittermelon, garlic and fresh turmeric (which is also supposed to help control blood sugar). I had curry powder and teriyaki sauce on hand. Whichever oil you choose, slice or dice and saute with everything. Many people like it. Some make it with meat (pork or beef). Some make it soupy, some make it alone. I like it after the second bite. The first one takes you by surprise it is so strong. I saw some recipes call for sugar to mask the bitterness, but what is the point of that for a diabetic (the teriyaki sauce had all sorts of sweeteners).... and if you cannot deal with the bittermelon freshly cooked or juiced they do sell tablets and powdered turmeric .... what kind of dog do you have?
