Hugbook
Thanks
Thanks for the hugs. Hate this daily roller coaster ride, never liked roller coasters to begin with. Have to go to Social Security office this week, not looking forward to sitting there for hours. My counselor suggested I find out about getting on Medicaid or Medicare, which ever one will help me. Trying to take it one day at a time, but it's not always easy (I know you know that).

Support Groups
Close Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionI lost my Father,Mother, Older (and only) brother and Cat......ALL to Cancer and in a relativly same time period. I have no other family and lost mostly all my friends when I withdrew into my depression hole. That would be my bed. My only support at this time is my wife, and I can see it taking it's toll on her now! I'm frightened at times. I HATE being addicted to METHADONE! I feel like one of those "True Blood" vampires from the H.B.O. series. If I could get sober.....??
Treatments
- Prozac Somewhat Helpful
- I've been able to climb out of my hole lately. The Doc used me as a controlled experiment of his own. All that Paxil and effexor etc., why not try Prozac first?
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- Lotta lip service and reminissing over old war stories.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- I only have a few old friends left, so I value them very highly!
- Writing Working / Worked
- There's nothing better.....except reading!
Close Cocaine Addiction & Recovery
I was a cocaine addict for many years. I'm 50 now and have managed to stay away from cocaine for 10 years now. But I still remember the torture and anxiety I had to deal with every day. And the detox process was one of the hardest things i've had to go through in my life.
Treatments
- Detox Working / Worked
- I attended a great outpatient program where I had to attend every weekday from 8 A.M. till 3 P.M. eery day. Each day consisted of group meetings with differant titles. Like a school, each meeting/class had a subject such as ,Coping Skills - Relapse Prevention- etc. The patients were not seperated by their drug of hoice, so I got to hear the symptoms and suffering of all types of addictions. There was a half hour of personal one on one with my therapist also. It saved my life!
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- While in rehab. I had daily sessions with my therapist.
Open Bereavement
Type: Loss of a ParentI lost my Mother, Father and brother and pet and all my life savings and on and on and.....................
Treatments
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- Frustrating
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- Numb
- Klonopin Working / Worked
- Only way to get (some) sleep!
Open Alzheimer's Disease
Stage: Early OnsetMy mother in law was recently diagnosed with Altzheimer's Disease. She is losing momories in lage "clumps" is the best I can describe it. My wife and I have had to move into her small 2 bedroom townhouse condo and along with our cat and her 2 cats and 1 dog,,,,,,well, as you can imagine, Chaos abounds. There are the quiet times, but most of the time I spend trying to help her. If she would just LET US help her more!
Treatments
Open Heroin Addiction & Recovery
I was addicted to heroin for 2 years after I lost my family. I'm not using their death as an excuse....Truth is I was doing Oxycontin and Xanax before that. It just worked out that way. I am now in a Methadone treatment program.
Treatments
- Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Somewhat Helpful
- When the counsiler would ask the 25 or so class how many people stayed clean from the last meeting till then, (a week), only one person raised their hand! I trid another droup that was not so bad, but I don't feel it was very helpful listening to everyones war stories.
- Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
- Methadone obviously works.....It's getting off of it that's so difficult.
- Klonopin Working / Worked
- Works to relieve my anxiety and panic attacks.
Open Lyme Disease
With all the other cronic diseases I suffer from, I'm happy (and lucky) to say that I DO NOT suffer from Lyme Disease. However, my mother-in-law suffered and eventually died due to the symptoms related to the advanced (tetiarey)stage of the disease. This was due to incompitance of the neurologist treating her.
Open War & Terrorism
The events of 9/11/01 shocked me to the core! Since then I've devoted thousands of hours, researching Islam. I wish everyone would! The truth about this "religion" is only second to the environment on my list of "clear and present" dangers to the world.
