I volunteered at the Boston Rescue Mission this afternoon serving meals. I have to tell you it was a complete humbling experience. I've always been my best when serving others, but this just reminded me to be mindful of all I have to be thankful for.
We were very poor when I was growing up and usually on the receiving end of charity. Maybe that is part of the reason I found myself working non-profit for so long helping families and children. I made a choice to move to the corporate world and most of my reasoning was because of infertility and wanting to be able to have a family and be able to take care of them.
With everything going on in my life, in my home and in my heart there are times I am so down I don't know if I will smile again. Then I volunteer, help an animal, see other people helping people and I know I will be okay. I watched some amazing whale rescues on T.V. yesterday and it helped restore my faith in mankind.
I guess my point is that things can always be worse then what they are for all of us. Yes, our pain is our pain and it is not any less just because someone else is going through something that may be harder. We still need to feel our pain and go through the emotions so we can move on. But today just reminded me of all the wonderful things I have in my life, like my amazing and loving friends, my crazy yet wonderful pets, my family (yes, they are a little crazy too...), my job (although it is not doing what I love it pays the bills and allows me help with my sister and to take care of my pets when they get sick). I don't ever want to forget all I have because the day I do will be the day I do not have it any more.

So true. Helping others, especially serving others, has always helped me reflect on my own blessings.

You are amazing and this message is so true. We should all be thankful for everything we do have in our lives. Someone else always has it worse. Thank you!

Wonderful perspective! And you are right...we absolutely must acknowledge our feelings because they ARE valid, and it doesn't make what we're going through any less difficult when someone else is going through something worse...but we should always count our blessings! Hugs!!

Yes this is a classic reminder to be thankful for what you have. Not dwell on the things that you don't. It gets hard but we need to try to keep it in mind. Hugs to you my dear friend.
