Had a really good day re:reflux and lyrica.
Had a really bad pain day. The whole of my spine hurt (not my back, just my spine) and my legs hurts so much. My boss who sits opposite me could see me clenching my fists, and as we have been working together for 10 yrs, he knows at a look whether I am in pain ( I don't tell people I'm in pain unless they ask). As I was leaving at lunch time, he said he had "man flu" which he said was worse than bird flu
.
I am nearing the end of my second week of working in the office from 8-12, and from home 2-5. It takes me half an hour to drive home, and as soon as I get in, I take my meds, and go and have a lie down. It is really helping. Today was the first day that I had to use my wheelchair this week.
My brother in law has been a star, and painted our stairs, so they look great now (but they make the rest of the woodwork look awful. The whole house needs doing really, although we could get away with just painting the woodwork and ceilings to be honest. And that was the first thing that my neurosurgeon said I would never be able to do again (because I can't really look up too well with 2 fusions in my neck!). And as I said before, my husband is not DIY inclined, so we have his brother do it.
We have managed to keep the house tidy for a whole week. At the weekend I was doing the tidying, and it got to the stage that I had to use my wheelchair inside, but it does make me feel a whole lot better when there is no clutter all around (which there usually is). It's not fair on my husband for him to do it to, so we must do something about getting a cleaner to come in once or twice a week.
Ben (my son) was not feeling too good this evening, and he just wanted to lie in the bed with me and cuddle. I sleep on the left side of the bed, and sleep on my right side (I cannot lie on my left side as that is the side that most of the pain is), and when he ends up in our bed (if he has a nightmare), he always wants me to hold my hand. He said that if I didn't have a bad back, then I would be able to cuddle him all night. It breaks my heart some of the things he says.
Anyway, time to sign off.

As your new schedule of the last two weeks (8-12/2-5) comes to a close, do you find it's working out for the better? Enjoy the weekend and say hello to Ben!

It seems to be helping me alot - being able to rest in the middle of the day. This is a trial until christmas, my work have been brilliant, I have beeen with them for 10 years, and in that time I have had 8 surgeries (4 for my neck). Each neck op meant that I had 6 weeks off and then I rarely returned to full time work for at least a year - yet they still kept me on, and paid me my full salary.
This time it is different though, as there is no cure for this, then we had to work out a better solution. I first suggested that I work every other day at the office and the others at home - but on any one day, I cannot say that I could work a whole day. Doing it this way means that the business knows where I am going to be and when. I cannot believe that my company could have been anymore supportive or accomodating. They have bought me height adjustable desks for home and office, about 3 different chairs in 19 years and now they have set me up with a complete home office.
Ben has a little cold - nothing more than a sniffle at the moment, but this morning he went to his swimming lesson and saw his best friend, and then went to visit his grandma whilst my husband and I went to see our friends new baby girl. Tomorrow, Ben is off to rugby (he plays at the same club as my husband (where I met him!)) and his best friend has just started too.

Nice, Ben is going to love the rugby even more so with his best buddy on the scene. So pleased to know your new schedule is working out thus far. Wow, it goes without saying, you're employer is truly exceptional. You're clearly an invaluable, key part of the business. I'm still having to plead for a new GPS unit myself. You're very fortunate. Take care, Barbara.
