About Me
I am an electrical engineer. I love what I do for a living. My husband and I live with our dog, a miniature schnauzer, in a house we are in the process of remodeling that we purchased three years ago. It has been great fun to make it our home. I had gastric bypass surgery in October, 2007 and have lost 113 lbs to date. It was the best decision I ever made to have this done. My whole attitude and outlook on life has changed and I now have a long life to look forward to.

Hey...I knew you meant well and what you said just came across in a way that I didn't receive well. That's why I didn't say anything about it and just got over it. I admit, initially it hurt a lot, but I also realized you had a good heart about it and only meant to help. My issue only about your comment, it was also about my mom and her treatment towards me about it all. So, don't sweat it. I knew your heart was in the right place, so it's all good. :) Take care and I plan on trying to keep up with you better. I'm working on getting in a better place mentally right now. Sorry I come off as a biatch right now. And thanks for understanding and lending support. :)

Close Gastric Bypass Surgery
Had very successful gastric bypass surgery on October 17, 2007. Recovery is going great. Have no physical problems whatsoever. Very glad that I made the decision to have this surgery. It is already changing my life and I know that it will change it a whole lot more as I continue to lose the weight.
Treatments
- Dietitian Consult Working / Worked
- As part of the insurance requirement for this surgery, I had to have six months of dietary consultation. I lost 56 lbs but am still over 100 lbs overweight.
Close Menopause
Been in menopause for two years now. I still get the hot flashes, especially at night. But all in all I am enjoying my new life without the worry of birth control.

- Estroven Working / Worked
- It helped when I was on it but my Doc. suddenly felt it was had to many ill side effects and is no longer prescribing it for anyone.
Open Prescription Drug Abuse
I have been clean for 15 years. I got clean by going to a rehab center. I would not trade my life now for any amount of drugs. I am very careful about the prescriptions that I permit my doctor to give me. I work a 12-step program through NA and AA. I am also an alcoholic.

- Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
- Was in rehab three different times before I finally got serious about my recovery. That was 15 years ago on February 1, 2007, and I have never looked back.
Open Alcoholism
Been sober for 15 years as of February 1. Attend AA and still have a sponsor. Actually we sponsor each other since ther eare not many women in the program with our amount of sobriety.

- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- Working great. I attend thre 12-step groups, AA, NA, and a Christian 12-step group.
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- I attend at least a couple times a month just to keep me remembering where I came from so I don't return. Still have a sponsor although we tend to sponsor each other since there are few women in the program with our amount of time.
- Al-Anon Working / Worked
- Husband also an alcoholic in recovery so I have issues that are unique to this program. Love sharing with others what wors for us.
Open Obesity
I currently weigh 274 lbs and am having surgery October 17. I was 356 lbs one year ago but with the help of a nutritionist, I was able to lose weight. Still having the surgery though because of major health issues that the surgery will help.

- Slim-Fast Not Working
- Used and I lost weight until I stopped using. Then gained all my weight back plus more.
Open Sexual Abuse
Was abused by my grandfather from the time I was about 8 years old until I left for college. My parents were killed in an auto accident and I was raised by my grandparents. I basically took the abuse so that he would leave my little sister alone. My grndmother knew what was going on but seemed powerless to stop it. He would tell me that if I told, I would be separated from my brother and sister and never see them again. They were all I had so I kept quiet.

- Even though I no longer consider myself a victim, I still see a therapist for this and a myraid of other things.
- \"The Courage To Heal\" Working / Worked
- This book helped immensely. Would highly recommend it to anyone going through this.
Open Personality Disorders
Type: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)Diagnosed about 10 years ago. Had multiple personalities but they have since merged.
Treatments
- Talking Working / Worked
- Helped the other personalities to merge. Was very good for this type of disorder. Allowed therapist to get to know each personality to know what to do to get the merge underway.
Open Pet Bereavement
We had a lab/beagle mix for 16 years. Just two years ago we had to have her put down because of kidney failure. there will never be another Daisy and she will always be in our thoughts. We have since gotten another dog (a miniature schanuzer) and we love him heaps.
Open Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionWas diagnosed about 15 years ago with severe depression. Have been up and down since then. Doing well currently.

- Celexa Not Working
- Didn't really help.
- Lexapro Working / Worked
- Had gastric bypass surgery so I am on liquid form now. Has helped immensely.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- See a therapist every two to three weeks depending on how I feel Has helped tremendously.
- Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
- Have a great husband and family who are there to support me and listen when I need to tlak.
- Writing Working / Worked
- Writing daily in my ournal helps me describe my feelings and helps me when I go for an appointment with my therapist.
Open Gout
Recently diagnosed with gout in my ankle. Dr. said it was caused from eating to much protein. Recently had gastric bypass surgery and am eating protein like crazy, mainly protein shakes.

- Allopurinol Working / Worked
- Seems to be working for me. Have not had an attck since I was put on it.
- Colchicine Working / Worked
- used when I had the attack. Helped immensely. Was fine in couple of days.

I was in an accident when I was six years old. I had damage done at that time that they think is the reason that I can't carry a pregnancy to full term. I have had seven miscarriages and thankfully I am in menopause so that I don;t have to experience this tradegy ever again.

- this has helped tremendously. I even have a small place that I set up as a memorial for my lost children.

- I have worked on this for a long time. After losing seven little angels, it is hard to face the day sometimes. My thereapist is always there with an understanding heart. His wife had a miscarriage as well and he can give me insite into how my husband feels.
Open Family & Friends of Cancer Patients
I currently have a brother and a sister that are both fighting lung cancer. My sister is having surgery today and is having part of her right lung removed. My brother has been given four to six months to live. Just looking for some support to get me through this horrible time.
