So, I am a little bit lost as to what to do guys!! I found quite a big lump in my stomach a few weeks back, and my friend made me promise to get it checked out, so despite not really wanting to I did. Luckily it's nothing serious, it seems I have developed a hernia, probably as a result of having my hysterectomy last year, when they cut me from my belly button downwards, and so I was using the upper part of my stomach a lot to get out of bed and stuff. My doctor wants me to have it fixed as it is big, and she is worried about it strangulating because of where it is, which would then mean emergency surgery. However I thought that I had done with surgery on my stomach after my hysterectomy - I've had to have 4 previous surgeries because of the endometriosis, to remove that, cysts, and adhesions, and I really, really don't want anymore surgery! I am trying to think positive and saying to people that the chances are it will be fine and won't strangulate, so there's no point messing with it, but my friends keep saying that I should have the surgery, coz it could happen! Ah I just don't know, I'm fed up of being poked and prodded, and I hate the way a lot of health professionals treat me because of my drug history! It doesn't matter to some of them that I've been clean 3 years, a lot of them have the point of view "once a junkie, always a junkie", and so treat you like crap, and then I'm a smoker and overweight, so I'm not really most health proffesionals favourite patient lol!
Also I live by myself and so don't have anyone to help me around the house afterwards, I have to pay for a home help to help me with the cleaning and stuff that I can't do already, but couldn't afford to pay someone full time, even for a week. Does anyone know how bad you are after a hernia repair surgery? They are wanting to put like a mesh in to keep my insides in lol!
Does anyone know how likely hernias are to strangulate, and wether it's better to leave them or get them repaired? It doesn't hurt all that much so if it were just down to that I would leave it, but of course I wouldn't want to end up needing life saving surgery!
Other than that I'm having my thyroid tested this next week, my doctor says I've got a lot of sympotms of an underactive thyroid, feeling cold, tired, dry skin, and putting weight on, and apparently you can be more prone to it with the Hepatitis C, so we'll wait and see what happens with that, fingers crossed that's all ok.
Sorry I've not been on much, I don't know where my week goes to at times I really don't, I only went to the podiatrist one day this week, and to see the doctor the next, and it totally wiped me out! Chronic fatigue is a sneaky little sod, you think you've got away with doing something at times, but then WHALLOP!!! the next few days it's like someone has taken your batteries out. Some days I don't even manage to get the computer turned on, let alone sit and write to all you fantastic people.
I hope you are all ok, and no-one is suffering too much with anything. Thanks for being such great friends, and I look forward to speaking to you all soon. Hope everyone has a great week.

I hope you can get it taking care of without anything serious! I hate how medical people treat us! I'm also an addict and I always get the look over. I hate it, but I just have to realize that they are uneducated about the addiction! Hang in there Sweety! Hugs, Kristin~

hi kaz
yep. i've been there, got the t-shirt! i have had 3 hernia repairs (size of footballs!) and now have a mesh in my belly. its difficult for me to say how long it takes to recover from the op tho cos my mesh was put in when i had my last kid and that was 3 ops in one. cesarean section, sterilization and hernia repair with mesh. even still, i was up walking little by little the same day as the op, more erect the next day and there was no stopping me from there. i went home on day 5 and the mid-wife came round for the next 5 days. by the time she'd finished with me, i was A1 ok. so it was about 10 days. i did get a slight infection from a pointy bit of the mesh pushing against my tummy though, but it was no big deal. i'm afraid i agree with everyone else. it is better to get it done than to leave it. better to be safe than sorry. they did mine with a spinal (epidural). i didnt have general anaesthetic. perhaps they could do yours like that if you wanted them to. most hernia repairs are in and out, a lot of them just go in for day surgery, but i would still allow a couple of weeks for full recovery. its important not to stretch or lift while your healing though or you could cause another hernia and we dont want that to happen do we???? lol..... whatever, you'll be alright. its a walk in the park:) i'm here for you.... any time.... you want more info about it, just ask and i will do my best to remember. be reassured tho that the docs do lots of these ops today and they can almost do them blind-folded. try not to worry ok? take care and have a really good weekend:)
