    • About Me

42 years old Been a chronic pain sufferer for 30 years. Had siezures starting around 11-12 that did nerve damage with each attack. Now I'm vision, hearing and mobility impaired. The last siezure damaged my stomach and partially paralyzed it. No treatment has ever been found. Fortunately the siezures slowed down in my 30's when my metabolism changed. I've also suffered anxiety/panic disorder since I was 18. Worked as a sterilization and supply tech in a hospital for 10 years and loved it until they found out my condition and forced me to quit or they would invent a reason to fire me. Been on disability since 1992. Met a lovely woman who could see past all my physical limitations. Fell in love and were married on Feb. 3, 1999. Now she is suffering unbelievable pain from a stress induced stroke and I don't know how to help her. My anxiety is shooting through the roof but I'm trying to keep it together for my wifes sake. Last thing she needs right now is to see me lose it and blame herself.

I love learning about everything. I watch all those "boring" shows on how things are made. Love sci-fi. Used to read a lot but my aging eyes are making that harder and more painful. I play eve-online on my PC met some real nice folks there. I'm an only child and like my privacy but at the same time I will talk your ear off if you give me a chance :P I love animals. Animals and babies seem fascinated with me always have, haven't a clue why. I've taken at least a dozen stray cats into my home over the past 30 years. Have 3 cats and a dog at the moment. Wish I could rescue more but that's all I can handle. I love bowling but I'm too wobbly to play much now. I nearly got my black belt in judo but my condition destroyed my sense of balance so I had to stop. I love to build things. Would love to learn to be a master carpenter. I'm a ww2 history buff. My father was a war hero and sparked my interest. My eyes are too bad to drive safely so I scoot around town on an electric bike that I made. made one for my wife too. Love taking rides to the park. Got a little kiddie trailer so I can ride with my dog. Everyone gets a real hoot out of seeing her ride with me. Oh and I love dragons. Not the cudly kind or the chinese kind. I like the classic "european" style. I have a dragon shirt for every day of the week. Hey! I saw that smirk! Wipe it off right now missie! Everyone's allowed to have a quirk or two :P PS I have a real good sense of humor too :)

Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better shape. --Charles Dickens Hope you have a wonderful Sunday. --Ouch

    • Close Chronic Pain

Wife has intense sharp head pain with pressure along with burning or freezing sensation on scalp that is spreading

      Treatments

      Cymbalta Not Working
no effect other than bad mood and nausea
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
works when she feels cold in her scalp. Likewise a cold pack helps for the burning.
      Hydrocodone Not Working
intense reaction. uncontrollable vomitting and migraine reqiring an ER visit and compazine IV. She actually cracked her ribs from the violent wretching
      Lidoderm Somewhat Helpful
helped a bit with her hip pain but can't use it on the scalp
      Lyrica Not Working
worked in the beginning but effect did not last long and quickly reached the maximum limit of 300mg/day then switched to neurontin
      Naproxen Not Working
no effect pain is much to intense for this medication to even begin to touch it
      Neurontin Somewhat Helpful
worked initially but effect faded over time requiring massive does that knocked her out for 16 hours+
      Elavil Somewhat Helpful
used for depression but found to have pain relieving qualities. Unfortunately this medication also makes you sleep for hours. and again over time effects seem to wear off requiring higher and higher doses. now combining with neurontin which helps a bit but knocks her out could for the better part of a day
    • Close Anxiety

Been suffering anxiety for 24 years now. Started when I was 18. I had/have a lot of untreatable neurological disorders and I had my drunken grandmother forced on me to care for. My parents would leave her with me and take off to get away from her abusive behavior. I was anxiety free for 2 years after my grandmother passed away but it came back and is still here

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
Relaxation exercises can help but it's very hard to relax in the middle of a panic attack. It's a force of will you have to break through but once you do it will help lower not eliminate but lower the level of anxiety.
      BuSpar Not Working
might as well have been taking tic tacs
      Klonopin Not Working
put me in a foul mood all the time and no relief
      Meditation Working / Worked
same as breathing exercises. can help assuming you can calm yourself down enough to meditate
      Paxil Not Working
don't laugh :) gave me a permanent erection that was "unrelievable". Told the doctor it turned me into a coffee table sweeper. First time I ever saw a doctor blush :P
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
always works for anything in your life. negative thinking just leads to depression. But how do you think positive during a panic attack?
      Valium Working / Worked
This works well for me. Used it to wean me off dependency on xanax. Not as strong as xanax but it lasts a whole lot longer so the risk of addiction is much lower. You WILL be addicted as with any narcotic medication but there is little or no withdrawal because it stays in your body for 24-48 hours before fading away. Take it once or twice a day and you should be fine. The only side effect I noticed in the past 10 years is a little sleepiness and I'll be cranky if I miss a dose
      Xanax Working / Worked
worked within 5 minutes but AVOID at all costs. HIGHLY addictive. Keep it for panic attacks only. The effects start to wear off in the first hour and the medicine is completely out of your system in 4. leaving you feeling worse than before. Try valium as a replacement has a much longer half life in your system tho not as strong as xanax
      Zoloft Not Working
as helpful as tic tacs again I'm afraid to say.
      Valerian Working / Worked
hey! Something "homeopathic" or "herbal" that actually works! Effects were similar to valium. Took it with my valium on bad days for added relief and it does help. Even alone it it works but not nearly as well as prescription meds. Makes you sleepy and can give you heartburn so take it with plenty of water. These are huge horespills.
