Not long ago, I told someone about myself wanting and planning on joining the United States Army. They continued to ask what I felt about the war, how I felt about the people against the war. All these questions that were in the right of asking and good questions to someone who wants to sign up their life for America's taking.
Everyone is going to have their opinions, about how this war is unjust or how it's completely in the right. I'm someone who stands somewhat in the middle. I don't know exactly what goes on over there and I don't believe in relying completely on the media. I'd rather take what I am told by real people who've been over there, who ARE over there, doing what they need to do and make my choice and opinion based off that.
I can tell you that the media is crap. They take stories, twist them around, just to get a quick buck and keep their job- I can tell you that in this economy that the media does some extra twists to drag you into your own Television set. The war was never about oil, in fact I hate when people say that.
I hate the fact that people constantly diss Former President Bush and I'm not afraid to say it. The man did the best he could and for anyone who talks about the 'lying' on WMD- it's bullshit. If you know anything about the Military, or about the President, it's that President Intel crap- the President makes his choices off of what his intelligence tells him- I wouldn't go around bashing a president, who's INTEL told him one thing then turned around because they did they did their job incorrectly.
Like it or not the man kept our country safe for SEVEN years- Our soldiers have given their lives for just that. Like or not, that is the truth. You can say it's because some idiot thinks there are terrorists in Iraq and the truth is- there ARE, who the hell do you think is killing our troops? If this country was really against the war- if EVERYONE was against this war, why are we still signing up?
Don't say it's about the college money- cause honestly. I want to do my part for this country- if I were to get sent overseas, to Iraq or Afghanistan, I'd go gladly, I'd go. Give me a gun, suit me up and send me to war, so I can protect the people that openly hate what I do. I know most of the friends that have signed up? Signed up to go to war, because they believe in what we're doing- what we're fighting for, and BLESS them for it.
People who say they support the troops but not the war, don't you find that a bit like an Oxymoron? Say I was already enlisted and already overseas- I'd ask you this, so you support me, but not what I do- that makes no sense. Soldier, Marine, Airman, Seaman- we're all men and women fighting this countries war, and you support us- but not the war we fight, well the WHAT the hell DO YOU support? You support the fact that we're putting our lives on the line for your neck? You support the fact that we're brave enough to go into a war that you think is unjust? You support the fact that we're the ones fighting and not you?
Tell me how that makes sense. Really- it's a matter of, "I support you going off, putting your life on the line so I don't have to." Type of selfish thinking- in my opinion.. I could be completely off base and if I am, please correct me, because I have yet to find out how that type of counter like support works. Some of us go off, just to go to war- and while I may never see combat, I know others who were disappointed they would not be going, so how in hells name do you support them? Answer me that.
After I answered these questions I was asked the kicker- "Would you be able to kill a man? Who's fighting for what he thinks is right?"
Yes. I know, forth right and blunt, but by that time- I'd have the Army's training under my belt. What you don't understand, is the fact that there's a line you have to watch. Who do you want to die, it's a serious question.
I have a family at home who loves me, so would he, we're both armed- we both have something we're willing to die for- so my mind's justification is he's not going to stop and show me mercy on the battlefield, he is not going to let me go- he will shoot me, if it's between who's life is more worth living. So the trigger has to set and click, shoot the round into a skull of someone who's not much different from myself- but that's how war is.
Secretly we're all killers, it's just a matter of our breaking point and moral standings. I'm probably one of most passive people, so I've been told anyway- but there is a line with family, friends, country and beliefs that I do find worth crossing if the situation called for it. People can deny that instinct all they want, till the day they finally break- hands trembling from shock. Believe it.
Support your country, support your soldiers- understand that today's leaders aren't who you think they are and never will be, never have been. Understand mistakes are made and the understanding of a situation- no matter what your standing is, is nothing more then skin deep.
"Heave the silver hollow sliver
Piercing through another victim
Turn and tremble be judgmental
Ignorant to all the symbols
Blind the face with beauty paste
Eventually you'll one day know"
