I wanted to write something as a reference to our story, but that was a quick read.
I met Tony June 30, 2006
Late 90's: Tony got hit by a forklift at work, sustained back injuries, had trouble with work and workers comp.
Over a year ago: He was hit AGAIN by the same forklift driver carrying like 2000lbs of ice cream on it. He was told for a year it was in his head. Last August he finally was approved to see the surgean who immediately put him into emergency surgery telling him another day and he may have been paralyzed. Knowing the trouble he had before he was prepared with a lawyer this time.
I asked him why he went back after the first time to that same job and he told me simply, "What was the chance it would happen again?"
Since his surgery he has been in and out of the hospital and other issues caused by the back such as his knees giving out have caused him to suddenly fall and hurt himself.
Most recently a little over a week ago he fell, hit his head on the counter and sustained a bad head injury which made him get temp amnesia (sp)
His dad has cancer and now something wrong with his kidney. He has vowed to be there for his dads appointments and he has kept most of them even in 7 out of 10, sometimes 10 out of 10 pain. He doesnt let anything stop him, but that letter on here to the normals is exactly him. We have been trying so hard to get a night alone to ourselves, but he has to cancel at the last second because of the pain. I do understand about that, but he and I both need a vacation so bad, so we are trying again in a few weeks to take a night away.
He goes to pain management once a month and the surgeon every few months now.
They think since he had the pain so long his nerves are over reacting and making pain that may not be as severe as it feels so they are trying this device that is inserted into the nervous system at the spinal area and it blocks the pain from getting to the brain. It is made for people like him who have tried every medication and therapy and nothing works and most do feel improvement with it, but they dont guarantee anything. He has a remote he can control the level he needs. The test version will be inserted some time in April I think.
That's about it in a nutshell
