Gabriel is here! Mood
Sunday, February 15, 2009 | A Happy story

Gabriel came into this world on Feb 14 Valentine's day at 12:19 PM.  He weighed 8 lb and 13 oz (thankfully he didn't go to 40 weeks or he would have been easily 10lbs).  He was 21 1/4" long.

I was at work on the 13th and didn't feel quite right, I was having contractions but wasn't really in labor which was pretty much my norm there at the end.  I finished my shift at 11pm and put myself on the monitor.  I was 4cm dilated which was a little bit of change from the previous 3 cm exam.  However my blood pressure was very high 160's over 90's.  They called my doctor and she said that I wasn't going home with BP that high so they kept me to induce me.  They started the pitocin at around 1:30 am, broke my water at 3am and at 5am I was 5cm dilated and got my epidural.  I progressed to 10 cm dilated and at 12pm started pushing,  I pushed once and they called my doctor.  My doctor came and I pushed for another 10 minutes or so and Gabriel was born!  He came out screaming.  He went to the nursery when he was about an hour old.  When I was going to my postpartum room we stopped by the nursery and I saw that he was on an oxygen monitor and was being given oxygen.  He was breathing a little fast and his oxygen level was a little low.  They kept him in the nursery until 6:30 pm watching him which seemed like an eternity.  All in all they said he was doing ok and that he was just having a bit of a hard time transitioning from being inside to breathing air outside.

He is absolutely adorable if I do say so myself.  I could just stare at him all the time.  We will go home from the hospital tomorrow.  I still can't believe that I finally have a healthy little baby of my own.  It's such an overwhelming feeling.
