pose of the week!

Someone suggested we have a pose of the week and then talk about it. I'm proposing down dog! Follow the link to see it and let's talk. I could talk about this pose for days! http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/491

    It's amazing how much stamina goes into dog. The arm strength and rotation, not putting too much weight in the wrists. Concentrating on pressure between the web of the thumb and index finger. Keeping the ribs pulled down. Letting your neck go. Keeping your abs and root pulled in. Stretching your heels toward the floor. Making sure your heels are hidden behind your ankles. Pulling up on the kneecaps. It's an unbelievably refined pose and then keeping it fluid and not static. Building up to your first held dog is quite an amazing journey. Fortunately when you're starting out there's always child's pose! :)
