Mantra Yoga

Do you have a mantra? I choose 'Om' or 'Aum' as my mantra when I was about 23. I eventually started listening to a lot of new age music with 'om' sung with music and have a lot of chanting the chakra's music aswell. I even have the symbol tattooed. I had a really enlightening experience this past spring while doing laundry. As I was reaching for my cloth's from the dryer I heard this most amazing "AAAAuuuuuMMMMMM" in a male and female tone and it was like I had heard the mantra between my third eye. It goes to show that any lay man/woman can experience something sooo cool even while doing something so mundane as laundry. What's your mantra?

I sometimes use 'Sat Nam' when practicing. I also have done lovingkindness meditations with each breath, Shanti, shanti, shanti. Well you just had a profound experience with the universal sound. How lovely!

Swami Sivinanda Radha has influenced me although she's crossed over now. I take a little bit from here and there from all walks of life even the average joe has something to teach us.

I like to start my day with the Gayatri Mantra

Deva Premal has a wonderful rendition which I believe can be found on youtube, although I have since developed my own personal rendition which is nothing like hers. As beautiful as it was to learn it first as a song by her, I do feel it is important to let ones mantra become ones own.
