"Lost to the Universe"

Lost, lost, I would love to be lost to the universe
On the stone steps that end with the beginning
Of our grass embankment I sit and ponder
Though worry edges across my mind
I find another place of space and time
Far away from this rat race everyday
My mind drifts far away out yonder
Past realms of Nature's wonder
Perhaps to a distant star to wander
I'd be lost to the universe way out there
Float free like an astronaut without a care
With galaxies in the Milky Way converse
But here on the confines of earth's boundary
I gaze upon the distant plains
Over tops of foliage and trees
A darkening sky of clouds rolls by
A scraggly tree stands alone in the alley
Its bulk of branches spray up and out
In an entwined form
Like our twisted lives
The bright sunshine wanes
Landscape swept by contrasts of shadows and lgiht
How still the tree branches set
Till the foliage of leaves shiver
Blades of grass quiver in the breeze
How quiet and still hushed everything lies
Before the storm and winds arise
Soon the whole cove of trees shakes
Wave in the wind--her chorus melody sings
My eyes sweep around
The ground, grasses, trees and sky
I want to loose myself again in nature
Away from the household mess
A crackle of lightening and thunder pierce the sky
A sprinkle of showers sprays my face
Under cover I race
Watch the pelting rain soak the terrain
Leaving it glistening, refreshing and wet
The showers wash away my pain
For a while being lost in the universe was my gain
On the stone steps that end with the beginning
Of our grass embankment I sit and ponder
Though worry edges across my mind
I find another place of space and time
Far away from this rat race everyday
My mind drifts far away out yonder
Past realms of Nature's wonder
