Shaving?
Posted on 01/12/09, 04:54 pm
I hate saving and wouldn't do it at all if I wasn't so afraid of being called an amazon- you know? I started shaving thinking that beautiful women don't have a lot of leg hair etc and because that's just what I thought all girls did when they became women. I am mostly causcasion and can't go without shaving for long without somebody noticing. What are your guys' views on this?

I also hate that the society expects women to shave more than men. As for men- I tend to prefer hairy men as long as their beards are not scratchy on my skin. -

I have to shave arm pits daily! It gets all itchy and prickly if I don't. In the winter, I shave my legs about once a month/once every 2 months. My leg hair grows in soft/fine and blonde, so you cannot even see it or feel it. The bikini area, I keep trimmed with an electric razor, but I don't wet shave unless I go swimming. I think it is whatever someone is comfortable with. When I was younger, I would always obsess over freshly shaved legs, but with the older I get, it is no biggie. If I were comfortable with bushy pits, I would rock them, but I am not, so I don't. -

I never shaved unless I was going out and would be wearing something that showed off my legs, the armpits get shaved more when it's hot and I'll be doing more physical labor that makes me sweat but basicaly I'm not big on wasting that time on something that I've never felt was real important.
ON the other hand it is true what they say about your leg and pit hair becoming finer as you get older, like the joke says it gives you more time to focus on that facial hair that starts going nuts right around memopause. I'm not into beards on women but when it's twenty below there have been days when I wish I could grow a nice thick one for the winter. -

I dont really have a position on shaving. I am not a very hairy person, so I dont worry about it much. Sometimes I do, sometimes I dont.
When I was about 19 I got a job at a strip club. I didnt strip myself, but I waited tables dressed in very little, and got awesome tips. I hated every moment. That was the first time I had ever been exposed to women who shaved thier pubic hair. When I joined the Army, almost all the girls did, and I ended up doing it too, because I was told that if I didnt shave I was a dirty little sl*t. Shocking to me, because I had been associating women who shaved with the sex industry!
I think the shave/dont shave thing has gotten way overblown. Some of the flames have been fanned by men, but women seem to have bought in too. I dont care. My boyfriend doesnt care. Beyond that, I am older and wiser than I was way back when, and I dont care what anyone else thinks of my body hair or lack there of (depending on my mood that week...lol) -

I mainly agree with Corbin. It shouldn't matter that much. As long as people are clean and tidy, I don't really think it matters. Growing hair is natural and normal, everyone does it, and I don't understand why women would put themselves through pain and cost getting the hair removed. It just seems to me to be part of our society's unhealthy obsession with the way women look. -

I shave because it's a habit and I don't like having hairy armpits and hair legs.

Hmm interesting post. I shave mainly because of habit but with my combat boots if I don't shave my legs if starts feeling gross, and my arm pits it just habit cause I have a physical job and I feel better. My GF on the other hand doesn't shave her legs ever and maybe once a week shaves her arm pits (which she mainly does for me) and I don't have a problem that she doesn't shave her legs. I do agree though it is such a pressure from society...shame really cause many cultures don't do it ever. -

I am 19 and pretty damn hairy but I don't shave at all. I find it so degrading, paedophillic, sexist, ageist, expensive....disgusting to me on so many levels. I didn't always feel exactly like this. When I was 12 I disliked the appearance of my body hair but felt too degraded by shaving to actually do it. I've learnt to like the way it looks and feels a lot now.
People never understand though. I can't find anyone willing to be my girlfriend, even amongst so-called feminists.
Being myself seems to mean being alone and therefore getting depressed.
I don't know how I'm gonna live, especially when nobody aggrees with me and the people I'm trying to help are the people causing me the most grief.

In the winter I live in long sleeves and long pants so don't bother shaving. When the warm weather arrives and armpits and legs are on show, I shave. I wouldn't bother shaving the pubic area unless I was going to wear a bikini or a high cut swimsuit.
