I have been on Mirena for about a year in a half and I have not had ANY discomfort with it. I think you need to talk to your doctor to make sure it is ok.... I too have never had kids but I can't take estrogen sooo this was the best choice for me. -

I never knew it was there. I agree with MSM24 to see your doctor, maybe you need a different size. -

Hi bluesun,
sorry to hear of your discomfort. An important questions to consider is how long has the IUD been in place? If it less than 6 months I would say you are experiencing some relatively normal placement side effects, in fact I am a bit surprised they even placed one for you with no child bearing history. Have you had a follow up since placement? If so then any size or misaligned placement issues would have been or will be discovered then.
Best,
girlie

Remember, the whole basis behind an IUD is to render the womb incompetent to host a fertilized egg. In other words, it tears up the inside of your uterus. When you move, the IUD moves and as it does, it scrapes on the sides of the uterus. Also, the Mirena contains hormones so it could also be causing you some inflammation and changes the PH balance for the uterus and cervix.
There is an adjustment period, but it would be good to mention it to your doctor as there is always a risk for infection with IUD use. -

ok saw my doc, she said that its pretty normal to feel this since i haven't had any kids. not everyone gets em but it's not uncommon. also looked at me like was nuts when i asked about sizes. i don't think they DO come in different sizes.
SockFuzz, IUD is about the only option i have left. i'm tired of switching birth controls and i have to be on SOMETHING bcuz i have fibro-cystic breast disease and the pain it causes is INSANE. the hormone in the b-controls helps keep the cysts smaller and help me to feel less pain. another thing is, i can't have periods every month because of the breast pain. and i'm on so many other meds and pills for other health issues, taking a b-control pill to add to the mix is just too much. i've weighed out option after option, tried different forms of b/c ...and the conclusion was either put me on mirena or tie my tubes. they won't tie em bcuz i'm not 30 yet AND i've had NO kids yet.
anyways... i guess i'm stuck with having some cramps here and there. oh well.... better than having a kid or having the pain with the b-control.
thanks for all your input. so much appreciated. -

hi! i've had the mirena for about 3 months now. i also have never had children but it was the safest for me as i have health issues. i was in terrible pain for about 3 days after, i couldnt get out of bed to even eat or go to the bathroom. i couldnt move, it felt like pms cramps but incredibly strong. after that i spotted for about 2 weeks. now i get my period regularly and yes its a little lighter, and i dont get as bad cramping. at first my gyno told me i shouldnt worry about a second option of birth control. so we didnt. but then i started to feel lots of pain only when we did certian positions. (deep penetration). i went in to see my doc and she advised us not to do those positions because it was making the iud move around and to start using condoms to be safe. it sucks cause hubby was thrilled not having to use condoms!:)now we usually just dont use them but i dont often let him "go" in me...i have a bit of acne on my shoulders and between my breasts from the iud, maybe a little bloating. other then that i really have no complaints!
