I don't have time for a full response right now as I need to leave for work soon. It's VERY common for beginners to see weight gain when they start lifting before seeing weight loss though. Once I started lifted consistently, I gave up looking at the scale as an indication of how I was doing.
I"ll try to address to your questions either later tonight or at work, depending on how much there is to do. SO glad to have life back in here again.

my user name is boomertoo!
i have only just started weight lifting/toning !
i have recently quit smoking...and i watch what i eat and how much i eat and....exercise too!
i used to lift weights a long...long..time ago and have only recently starting purchasing dumb bells and wrist/ankle weights, etc.!
i have a band flex (something like a bow flex) here at home and an ab lounge and recumbant bike too!
anyway...i have been doing good for about two weeks now!
but...my problem is....my scales are going up in weight... instead of down!
in spite of the fact that i am.... watching what and how much i eat!!!!! i assume it is from muscle gain!???? i read articules that said....( by various web sites).... that you can gain muscle weight..... while still losing fat and that is why the scales are weighing me in as..... being more than i was.... when i started!
i sure do hope this is the reason!!
there is nothing more upsetting .....than seeing the scales move upward.... in spite of your hard work!!! these sites said that "you should look for other changes.... besides..... what the scale says"! like.....for instance.....how your clothes are fitting or how you feel doing certain things( maybe something that was hard for you to do..........is now getting easier to do!??)etc.
anyway.....is there anyone here in this group.... who can give me some insight? maybe on where i should start out at? or....what weights/reps.... i should be doing? take care, boomertoo
