Dyslexia help for my son
Posted on 09/28/09, 05:44 am
I know that dyslexia runs in families but when I was a child my parents had never heard of it. It is only now at the age of 37 that my therapist picked up on it (he has a dyslexic son) and I had an initial test to confirm that there is a strong possibility that I am dyslexic. However, I can not afford the price tag for a proper diagnosis.
However, I am coping well. It is my son that I am concerned about. I know he is struggling and he is falling behind in reading and writing. I have spoken to the school and asked for him to be tested but they think he is too young. I disagree. The struggles I had as a child he now has and it really hurts me to see him struggle.
He can not tell the difference between 'a' and 'e' etc and can not count as the numbers move about.
If his school will not listen to me, where do I go for help. I really do not want him to struggle the way I did as a child.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you.
