Well i'll start with my problems and if anyone can help i'll be really impressed. I was very fit 5 years ago and then i slipped 3 discs. They didnt heal. I finally had emergency surgery last year for spinal stenosis and had a discectomy and laminectomy. I can walk again now but i am limited. I've piled on the weight and i cant exercise, i'm on a lot of medication and i'm depressed as well. i cant work because of my back and now to top everything else off my husband and i have been told we have only a 10% chance of conceiving naturally. I desperately want a baby. any help on any part would be gratefully received? The whole thought of IVF terrifies me, mainly from a money point of view. I have however got a great sense of humour thank god! -

Don't be frightened of IVF - if that is the way to go. So many couples have their own child as a result. Good luck! -

I think that we should discuss mental health issues and the fact that there doesnt seem to be that many directions to go in for help. Especially if it is something like anxiety.....sometimes you are just written off and told (as i was by one dr) that you just have to learn to live with it because you will never get rid of it.....now if you werent rock bottom before that then you certainly were after it. It doesnt seem to be classed as important as say depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia or manic depression, but i bet there are as many people out there suffering from anxiety and phobias as there are anything else. Please lets see if we can rectify this in some small way so that people like me dont feel as if we are wasting peoples time or just attention seeking....thanks xx -

I have to say my experience has been different. I suffer from chronic depression, a big part of which is anxiety.I've had a lot of help. Dont take this the wrong way but have you told your gp exactly how bad it is because there is a lot they can do for anxiety. Is there a councellor at your practise? You can ask to be referred for cognitive behavioural therapy or to see a psych. There are also medications available. If your gp still wont listen, change gp. There are also things you can do to help yourself. practise meditation, its not easy and takes time to make a difference but it does help. There is also a lot of self help literature on anxiety out there and talk to us. If you have panic attacks and you are by yourself there are are helplines you can call to calm down. talk to us! good luck -

i think that a helpfull discussion may be the mental health teams within the nhs and the availability of the resources that they offer including the way that the deliver them including the inclusions of the carers for the person/s in question.
in our experience there is very little out there for a crisis siuation and when you do call upon the resourcea that are there we appear to be swept under the carpet because we may be causing a work overload or they may not think the situations severe enough but to the person needing the resources the situation is very real and very severe and happening right now not at their convenience in say an hours time -

Hiya, yeah i have tried to discuss with my dr how bad my anxiety gets....initially when i decided to ask for help i was refered to a coucillor for a few months to try and educate me on what it was that was happening to me, then after that i have been sort of left to my own devices. It was during a period of feeling very bad that i came across this site and joined, i have also bought books, cds and relaxation tapes all with the purpose of trying everything possible that is out there. I tried to discuss CBT with my dr but she wasnt very forth comming so i guess that i will have to look into it myself, i know a few people on here who are trying it so i am waiting on their comments to see how or if it has helped them.......if you have any recomendations on how i can proceed then all info is greatly appreciated..........thanks a lot xx -

CBT is supposed to be very effective from what I have heard (as long as you commit to it). However, be warned that, if you are seeking this type of therapy on the NHS, you may have a very long wait (pills are easier and cheaper!) -

Generic drugs and non generic drugs - has there been any research on this topic.
I have Emphysema / COPD and was wandering if I would not get the side affects so much from a non generic drugs.
I think since been on the drugs I have noticed symptoms and wandered how many of these are the side affects of the drugs.

How Many COPD patients - also suffer with extreme tiredness, short temper, easily upset, doesn't copy with stress at all, sleep apnea (not treated in Wiltshire NHS but is treated in Dorset).
Is the medication for COPD patients likely to cause the above symptoms as well as it being a symptom of COPD. Also bruising easily, bloody congested nose every morning / day, occasional sudden nose bleed during the night, snoring .....
Muscle cramps, bloating, gas in bowel, ability to be active limited weight gain occurs - weight loss occurs I believe when one is unable to eat food without discomfort / shortness of breathe.
For those that don't know we have a charity in the UK "The British Lung Foundation" who is campaigning for better deals for patients with a lung condition - these are the people who got us pulmonry rehab on the NHS(highly recommended).
