What Is Important To You?

Posted on 11/04/09, 04:00 pm
This is just a bit of a fun debate, and something to think about and ponder. My question is... What is 'important' to you? By that I mean, what things do you value? What do you need to do every day in order for the day to 'feel' right? Who are the people in your life that you value, or that you could not imagine life without? What personal beliefs do you hold on to, that you feel are important (these could be religious, political, environmental, or ethical...etc). The list could go on and on.

I have many things in my life that I feel are important. They in no particular order include, but are not limited to:

1) My family, pets, and friends (people). These people and pets bring me social activities, and keep me from becoming a hermit. They (including my pets) have also helped me through some very emotionally trying times...

2) My job. I could not imagine life without my job... Seriously... It takes me out of my house, and gives me a sense of purpose.

3) My spiritual belief. It gives me comfort when no one else is willing or able to.

4) My health. My health is very important. I have been struggling to maintain it for years. Since becoming very ill, I now realize just how important it is to remain healthy...

5) Quiet time by myself. Sometimes I just need to be alone to meditate, and clear my mind of my worries...

6) Financial security or 'peace of mind'. I think everyone desires this to some extent. I don't need to be a millionaire to be happy. I just want enough on hand so that I can keep paying my bills, buy healthy food, and keep myself clothed.

7) Freedom to make decisions for myself. This is something that we often do not value enough. I have met people who came from countries where they were not allowed to do so (both men and women). Some places or countries, have such harsh rules that you can't even choose what job you have, or who you marry, or even if you marry.

8) Clean air and clean drinking water. These things are becoming more and more hard to find as we become more and more 'advanced'. In one community close to where I used to live, it is now unsafe to drink the tap water. If one wants to drink water, they must purchase bottled water.

I am sure that as the day passes, I will remember more things that I find important. So... What is important to you? And why are they important to you? I am just curious...

It's OK Bear. I forgot some things also. I also think education and memories are very important. I can't believe I forgot to include those...

And the culture I grew up with. My family history and cultural traditions are also very important to me, Traditions are something many people of different cultures are losing, and I think it is a great shame that this is happening...

And children. I may not have any of my own, but I think they are very important. In my opinion, children are our future. I may not run in front of you Bear (much as I like you as a friend) to take a bullet, but if my neighbours kid was the one being threatened, you darn well can bet I would try to for her... Without the children... our race is doomed...

    What is important to me?

    1. That my kids and grandkids be able to grow up in an American that is as economically sound as the one I grew up in.

    2. Peace (personally, nationally and globally)

    3. Financial security

    4. My home and my family

    5. Personal growth

    6. Laughter

And these are not in any particular order.

Honesty is also very important to me. As well as 'doing the right thing'. I see so much dishonesty, and so many selfish hurtful acts these days, it truly saddens me.
