Hi, all! I'm new to DS and picked this as one of my groups because I, too, have tinnitus. I take it this is a relatively new group?
Well, already I am surprised at what I read. I see people naming when they had "an attack" of tinnitus. I have tinnitus 24/7, and did not know there is a kind where you can get an attack of it. Wow.
Does anyone know, are there official different types of T. and if so, what are they?
I have had my tinnitus for about 10 years, now, and have never done anything about it simply because I haven't believed there is anything that can be done about it. But, you know, technology changes in 10 years. I've been so busy the last little while here with small children, I have not really looked into whether there is help available!
All I do to cope is try to ignore it. I think most days I am pretty good at ignoring it, but then there are days you can't and that can make me really irritable. :-(

My type of tinnitus is a roar and pressure in my head. I also have hyperacusis, which is high sensitivy to sound. It always seems to be worse in the morning. I went through tinnitus retraining therapy wich provided nosie generators that I can wear inside my ears. They have been incredably helpful. Hope you are doing okay. Hugs. FranD -

Tinnitus sounds can change alot for some, or stay the same for others, take mine, im profoundly deaf, but my tinnitus is there 24/7 well i get a couple hours sleep at night, because i take 1 mg diazepam and that was pure luck i came across diazepam as i suffer muscle spasms in face because of so many operations in ears, so Dr gave me diazepam to take 1 at night because thats when spasms in face were the worst, and well miracle was i get couple hours sleep..i still wake up with tinnitus but i get SOME sleep.
Now the noises, how about last week i had brass band music in 1 ear and people talking in other all blinking week non stop, and i was on assessment for Cochlear Implant at the time, pheeew things happen when you dont want them. Also i have constant seashore noise, you know like the type i used to hear from a shell on the beach when i was a kid..also train noises, and soldiers marching and more and more such a variety its unbelievable i know, but its true..I cant use mask as im profoundly deaf, ive tried mental game, relaxation techniques, theres more to try yet...but i wont give in...And in case you ask why dont i take diazepam during the day, answer>> i want to see daylight and they are highly addictive....
Well im open to suggestions.
