Adventures in Pandaland!

Posted by Irime - 05/03/08, 09:05 pm

Mel Cracks me up so I thought I would punctuate that with adventures in Pandaland.  Today: We set foot into a new, unchartered land!

Panda and the crew, having had enough with the quarrels of folks back home, set off in a rickety little boat acrossed the ocean in search of a new place to call home.  After days of searching, the first mate paintedswan spots something glowing in the distance!  Not sure what she has seen, she hastily cleans off the end of her spy glass with the edge of her shirt, and double checks... in awe she spots a beautiful lighthouse at the edge of a promising spot of land.

LANNNNNNNDDDDD HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

As they made landfall, they were met by sexy cabana boys. The boys quickly pulled the boat into shore and assisted the lovely ladies out of the boat. While walking them up on the beach they quickly helped the ladies to carry their belongings and showed them to their beachhouse. Inside was beautiful. The cabana boys quickly helped the ladies settle in to their new home and made them a pitcher of margaritas to help them relax.....

Once the cabana boys had unpacked the ladies bags and trunks, they showed the crew around the beautifully decorated beach house. the walls were painted in delicate murals, rich colours showing scenes of storms where huge waves crashed upon the lighthouse, and beautiful sunsets over the sea.
The crew headed straight for the Hot-tub in the back of the house. It was sunken into ground and the whole area was adorned with fairy lights and candles flickering in tin-can holders with stars and moons punched out of the sides.
As the ladies let the warm bubbles soothe away the aches and pains of the journey, they watched as the lights played about the garden.
"I don't think those are from the tea-lights", said Captain Irime.
"They are faeries, welcoming us to our new home" replied Purple, the ships seamstress, " I've heard about this, when new comers enter a place linked to the faery realm, they come out of hiding, dancing and shining to greet the new arrivals."
Relaxed and tired from travelling so far, the crew slowly left the hot-tub, one by one they all took themselves off to bed almost having totally forgotten about the secret box they had left unopened in the hold of the ship......

drifting off to sleep that night, the crew heard soft murmurs, much like the sounds of elves singing lullabies, intermingled with dreams of softly floating clouds covered in twinkling starlight. They had entered a magical place, the magic of the world seeped into their bones and cradled them softly from the brutality of reality......

They awoke the next morning realizing that they had forgotten about the secret box when Sparklypurplefairy reminded them the next morning over coffee and breakfast.Irime decided to make her way back to the ship to retrieve the magical box when suddenly she was stopped by elves....

"Argh!" shouted the elves, for they were in fact pirate elves. "Bring forth the box of all magic or we will shiver your timbers and make you walk the plank!" Yes, Irime had inadvertantly wandered into the path of the dreaded stereotype pirate elves of yore! She let out a gasp and made a run for the ship. The stereoptype pirate elves gave chase, letting out their infamous battlecry of "Yargh, mateys!" as they ran. Irime dived elegantly onto the deck, as the elves bounced off of the invisible protective bubble that surrounded the ship. She checked that the magic box was in tact and safe, and turned to see movement from the bushes on the edge of the beach. The elves had noticed it too, and were looking anxious. Worried by what could be scary to the stereoptype pirate elves, she silently thanked the genius who had added the protective bubble to the ship before the ladies set sail. A small figure stepped from the bushes, causing the elves to gasp and scatter in all directions. He stood proud and cuddly, a three foot tall, squishy panda...

Captain Irime started in astonishment, caught in a whirlwind of wonder at this marvelous apparation before her. Still unsure of the authenticity of the Panda before her, she blinked rapidly, and tried to rub the image out of her eyes. Low and behold, the panda still existed before her, and a wild grin of glorious joy encompassed Irime's face. Tilting her head to the side, so as to better view. As she did so, the panda, with a rather peculiar expression on his face followed suit, tipping his head just so ... as to emulate her every move. Irime giggled, and tried tipping her head to the other side, and the Panda responded in kind. Thoroughly amused, Irime touched the tip of her nose, and watched gleefully as the panda pressed a paw to his also. Every movement she made was mirrored by the rather confused looking Panda, and with each passing moment Irime was laughing harder and harder until finally the rest of the crew awoke...

First mate, Painted Swan, was up first. She began stirring the rest of the crew as she rushed to the nearest stained glass window. Through the candy coloured haze she saw captain Irime on the ship looking rather bizarre and wagging her head side to side.
Painted Swan rushed down the stairs, Happy Bunny, Frenchy and Purplefaery rushed out along the beach with her.
"Cap'n! Cap'n, what are you doing out here?" Irime didn't seem to hear the crew as they called out to her.

Irime continued to stand, focusing only on the Panda, unaware of the crew's efforts due to the sound-proofing effect of the invisible, protective bubble encasing her. She looked down at the secret, magical box in her hands and traced the intricate shapes that she had been mystified with since they had first found this box.
If only I could read what these funny looking letters mean, she thought to herself.
Looking back up to where the Panda had stood Irime had a shock, as it had moved to stand almost directly in front of her and was staring at the box in her hands. Now looking intently at the Panda, the crew began to encircle it.
Just as they thought they had blocked every possible escape route, the panda looked up directly into Captain Irime's face and touched it's big squishy nose again, but this time it disappeared with a quiet "poof" and twinkling of golden stars.

Excited by the fact they had actually just met one of Pandaland's famous mystic pandas, the crew bustled about and chatted enthusiastically. "Wait!" cried Irime, bringing a halt to the hubbub. "We've forgotten about the magic box!" The girls resumed the hubbub as they tightened the circle around Irime to see what could be inside. Her fingers fumbled a little with the excitement of opening the brass clasp, but it gave way easily and opened to display its contents.

"Animal biscuits!" shouted SparklyPurpleFaery, for that is what we call them in good ol' Blighty. She rushed in to taste one. "They're really good!" she exclaimed, as all of the other girls moved in to take a biscuit.

"Wait" called Frenchy, inadvertantly dropping crumbs over Sherry's sarong. "There's something underneath the cookies..."

Irime, being the first to catch the glint at the bottom of the box, cautiously begain sifting to the bottom of the animal biscuits (which, off topic, is what I assume we call animal crackers??) Nestled in the bottom of the box and surrounded by soft green velvet was an ancient key, tarnished and worn. Irime, puzzled by this new development, reaches into the box and grasps the key with nimble fingers. Picking it up, she examines it closely, and suddenly it begins to glow. An elvish spirit appears magically before their eyes, swirling in colors of blue, purple, and green. The crew's jaws all dropped, cookies still being chewed, in awe at this new development.

The spirit floated just above the pale gold sand, a silent breeze blowing her long flowing locks out behind her. As the crew and captain stared at her they noticed her ears. They gently curved to a point and were decorated with shimmering strings gilded with small gems and talismans. The spirit had stood there allowing them all time to take in her apparition and now she decided was the time to address them.
"I am Danu, the mother of all faeries and the last Guardian. I bound my spirit to this key many years ago in the hope that I would be able to guide it's fate and see it's journey into the hands of the Keepers." The key continued to glow in captain Irime's hand.
"We must journey now together, to the Sacred Realm. Only there can we stop the tide that is fast approaching our lands."
The crew looked at their captain, mouths still wide open, half eaten biscuits still showing. Above them a loud and booming thunder storm broke the still silence. With the crew distracted by the sudden onset of rain and lightening crashing all around them, the Elven spirit turned and disappeared as suddenly as she had arrived. In a swirl of her long ethereal dress, she pulled up the hood of her dark velvet cloak and left them.
The ladies looked at Irime with pleading eyes as if to say they wanted to run to the lighthouse but she knew they couldn't.
Irime was hardly even thinking about anything, but before her consciousness could register the thought, they were all back in the warmth of the lighthouse, snuggled up by the roaring fire with no hint at how they had got there except for the loud pop they had all heard.
Looking around the room in awe the crew finally let their eyes rest on the captain, "I, I, I have no idea what happened." but deep in her mind she wondered, are we the keepers? do we hold mystical answers?
But who could answer her questions......?

As if in answer, a small giggle distracted the dazed girls. They looked around to see where it had come from. "Look," cried PolarBear. "In the trees!" The girls all looked to where she was pointing, and saw the little panda was back, dancing in the treetops and bouncing between branches as though lighter than air. Suddenly he stopped, realising all eyes were on him. He turned his gaze to the lighthouse on the hill. One by one the girls turned to follow his gaze and stare at the small but welcoming beacon. When they looked back, the panda had gone again.

"We must find the panda!" Cried Captain Irime, in sudden realization that their connection to the silly bear was more binding than she had first thought. They all raced from the lighthouse, AZGirl45 in the lead (as she was the fastest at running) and into the forest the crew went in utter excitement.

Soon Azgal had stopped in a small clearing deep within the forest. "Where can he be?" panted HappyBunny
"We must have been running for hours" complained Purplefaery (who hated to run unless absolutely necessary.)
The crew looked to their captain...but she wasn't paying attention as her gaze was fixed on something in the distance.
They followed her gaze and saw on the horizon a large hill adorned with a large coloured tent, perching right on the top. "Let's go!" cried Captain Irime. and so with that, she took off running again but this time towards the huge tent.

As the motley crew grew closer to the huge tent, they could hear a faint tinkling music, carried on the wind...

As the group secretly listened to this beautiful, harp-like music hiding behind one of the sides of the tent they had a chance to admire the intricate painting on the tent's walls.
The panel they were closest to depicted a large rose garden in full bloom. A dragon standing in full stretch, spouting water from it's mouth stood as a marble fountain in the centre. The water even seemed to sparkle as it appeared to flow into the basin.
As the crew stood there, lost in the quiet world of the rose garden they didn't notice the light footsteps of the approaching hunter.
"Greetings to you, what be your business here strangers?" As the group turned in shock to the voice which had disturbed their peaceful thoughts, they froze.
The being in front of them was striking to say the least. At just over 7 feet tall, the slender yet well toned man stood looking at them quizzically. He was dressed in a long tunic the colour of ivy leaves and soft doe-skin trousers lashed at the waist with a heavily decorated belt, the buckle of which had a large ruby red gem in the centre.
He carried a longbow in his left hand and an empty quiver hung gently over his shoulder. His eyes were slit down the middle like a cat's, and were the colour of wild cornflowers, his hair the pale silver of the moon ran down his back long and flowing.
"We came in search of the magical panda." Explained Irime, "We followed him into the deep forest and when we heard your music, we followed it in hope of food and shelter."
"You look like you could benefit from these things indeed." the hunter commented.
"We have been running and searching the forest for hours now, please can you help us?" Irime asked.
"Follow me." The crew looked at one another and wordlessly agreed to follow this unusual stranger.
They picked their way the tent ropes and finally reached the entrance which was covered by a large deer skin flap. As they stooped inside and peered around the tent in awe, the warm sunlight was coloured by the bright paintings on the tent walls, poured over all of them. There were large, silken cushions scattered on the floor mat and a large fire pit directly in the middle under a shaft of clear sun diving through the smoke hole above.
The air inside was not hot or sticky as you may well imagine, it was cool and refreshing yet not too cold and it was scented with wild flowers and gentle spices. The crew did not wait to be invited and immediately settled themselves down on the comfy floor space and looked up at the hunter peering through the tent flap.
"The council will want to know of your travels, I'd best go and send for them. By the way, I am Banadar. The wise one of this Alar of elves."
"Elves?" Irime was shocked, as he looked nothing like the dirty, short and dumpy pirate elves they had met earlier.
Banadar didn't wait to answer the stranger's question and continued backing out of the door and going on his way.
"Now what are we to do?" piped up Sally,
"Yeah, I'm starving and need to have a kip before carrying on, Cap'n" added Polar.
Before the weary crew got their answer, a head had popped through the tent flap and was followed by another, the crew gasped in sheer surprise. The elves filed in one by one each of them well above average height for a human and all with various coloured hair and eyes, some golden like the sun with lavender cat-like eyes, some with raven-dark locks and yellow eyes. But all had a soft and milky complexion.
"The council for the Alar of the Westgroves wishes to know the reason for your search of the mystical pandas." It had been an Elf dressed in a fine mint coloured, woollen cloak fastened with an ornate clasp who had directed the question to Captain Irime.
