ETHEL

She woke up this morning and did her usual full body stretch. This is part of her morning ritual to fully stretch her arms and her legs extending her toes as far as they go. Oh it feels so good! Next she gave herself a bath. Then she decided to venture into the kitchen to see if grandma left her any breakfast. There was a bowl of food for her and she ate greedily. It wasnâ??t until later that she noticed how quiet it was and she realized she was totally alone in the big house. Where were her mother and grandmother? How dare they leave her alone. She cried out for them with indignation. This wasnâ??t right. Ethel felt that she was a princess and deserved better treatment then this. Why wasnâ??t she told that she would have to fend for herself today? She had been abandoned.
Dejectedly Ethel lumbered up the stairs to the living room and hefted her large body on the couch. She positioned herself on the blankie in the window, her favorite spot for her mid morning nap. She settled in to dream of happier days with her dear departed partner, Fred. He used to take care of her. Life had not been the same since she lost her buddy who shared everything with her. She dreamt about playing ball, dressing up, dancing, and sharing her bed with Fred while the sun streaked in the window and baked her skin. She slept so peacefully she did not even hear her mother come home. When Ethel woke up she was delighted to feel her mommy petting her warm feline fur coat. She purred happily. And all was forgiven.

Hi Kat: I agree w/Jannis, the story sounds a little auto-biographical. Ethel is your unconscience self. Our pets do get us through everything, no judgements. The thought of losing Baby Doll kills me. She has been there for me through so many losses in sixteen years. Luv, Ree

It was intentional the write only the one word "feline" at the end to reveal her true identity. But I didn't realize I was talking about myself. That is why writing is a catharsis. I have feelings of abandonment because Phil left me alone. Thanks for the insight, Reenee

PS I will be there for you on that inevitable day when your sweetie goes to doggy heaven. Lady will meet her at the doggie door.

Wonderful story!! I love it. Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of a feline person I shared life with many years ago I named Kiss-Kiss. She was a jet black short hair, and she was a princess too.

Welcome

Some happy, some sad, some ironic, some defying classification. Bring back the memories of youth, memories of growing up, memories of life changing events. The only thing I ask is to please keep it mutually respectful, and non-argumentative.
