Kevin,
You are right. The key is NOT GIVING UP in spite of how it wears you down. In case you have not seen my post, I started in 2002 and was FINALLY approved Feb 5, 2009! And believe me when I say, it took an emotional toil on me that I can't put into words. Its a shame that it takes so long and sometimes (like I did) you end up with an ALJ that is known for being a total JERK in every way but no one will do anything about it in spite of it being brought to the attention of the higher ups by SSDI professional, attorneys, etc.
Granted, my case did end up being a pi**ing contest for this guy and thta is not the way it is for most people. I am just thankful that it finally worked out for me. But, I will say this, I do have scars from the way I was treated by this man. He went out of his way to be ugly to me and would ask me stuff that my attorney would tell me later that NONE of the ALJ's EVER ask anyone. He was just a ......I can't even say it here!!
Sorry, as you can see, it still upsets me because he is still out there doing this to others.
Back to you.....HOOOORAHHHHHH!!
I know you have such a sense of relief and peace of mind to not have to battle that anymore.
I know on my paperwork it did state that I may be reviewed in 5-7 years to see if I am still disabled and I believe that is pretty much the norm as I have seen others post about having to have a review in 3 years.
Congrats my friend!! And thanks for sharing your good news with us. We need to know that someone out there is getting approved and not everyone is stuck in a "hold" pattern:)

FINALLY GOT APPROVED FOR MY DISABILITY
Posted on 03/26/09, 05:46 pm
I FILED NOV 9 2006, 2 DENIALS AND A LAWYER LATER AND ALSO A COURT HEARING WITH THE ALJ, I WAS APPROVED MARCH 20, 2009. I AM GOING TO RECEIVE FULL BENEFITS AND BACKPAY ALL THE WAY BACK TO OCT 2006. ALSO I AM GOING TO GET MEDICAID IN A FEW WEEKS AND WHEN THEY FINALIZE MY SSDI, IT WILL CHANGE TO MEDICARE. FIRST I WILL RECEIVE SSI PAYMENTS AND BACKPAY AND THEN IT WILL GO INTO FULL DISABILITY PAY AND BACKPAY. I FOUND THE KEY IS NEVER GIVING UP. FIGHT TILL THE END. GET A LAWYER!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A VERY LONG PROCESS. IT CAN JUST ABOUT BREAK YOU DOWN PHYSICALLY,FINICIALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY(THE WORST). BUT IF YOU PRESERVERE WITH YOU, YOU WILL HOPEFULLY WIN. THE KEY IS TOO PROVE HOW YOUR DISABILITIES PRREVENT YOU FROM DOING ANY KIND OF JOB, ANY! GOD BLESS AND BEST WISHES TO ALL ON THIS ROAD TO SSDI.

You know, I constantly had a recurring dream that I went back to work out of desperation but was really not able to do so. I know it was the stress of waiting, etc. I would wake up in pain so bad and I knew in my heart I was not able but because of going through all the emotional changes that this waiting, etc. brings about, I would constantly have this dream.
I know I am a nut case but part of that is the fault of our SSA system:) -

What is an ALJ?

That is just the abbreviation for the Administrative Law Judge that hears the SS cases. Usually they are attorneys who may have practiced SS law, etc. prior to taking the position. I know that is true in many cases but do not know what other walks of life they may come from besides law but now days, who knows?? -

When was your ALJ Hearing? I'm waiting for my ALJ decision so I'm interested in seeing how long it took you to receive your decision after the hearing. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations!!!! FeeFee, it took mine about 2 months. Hang in there dont give up if you are denied. I had to appeal to the appeal justice. They sent it back to the ALJ to make another decision and I am still waiting. I hope you are approved. -

Waitingforhim...thank you very much! I hope that you are approved also! Did you already have your new hearing or are you still waiting for it to be scheduled? How long after your ALJ denial did all of this happen? I'm trying to prepare myself in case I'm denied. -

It took my husband from May 2001 to June 2007. Now my application is from Jan 08 to now (very little in comparison but we are really struggling. I have been told that backpay only goes back a year now (if awarded of course). Is that true? Thanks in advane
