People with SAD are beautiful, sensitive people who have so much to give to the world.
People with SAD should be supported so that they can share their intelligence, kindness and sensitivity in useful, creative and constructive ways.
People with SAD can seek therapy (like CBT) and support to build their self esteem and courage to dispel the anxiety and relate to others.
People with SAD can have a bright and happy future with a little bit of courage and determination.

Why is nobody honest with SAD people.
Posted on 10/30/09, 02:59 amHow come no one is ever honest with people that have SAD. Just be upfront and tell us what you really feel, and what is really the truth.
People with SAD are losers, and will never amount to anything.
They might as well do the world a favor, and give us overdoses when we visit the doctors.
There is no hope or future for people with SAD.

I'm glad riverside posted the positive message above, but I do understand your feelings as well,Rabies. I'm a life-long sufferer of social anxiety, and I've felt the way you do many times. Often, social phobics suffer from depression because of our low self esteem, lack of friends, feeling like mis-fits and outcasts, etc. That's why I'm so glad to have this group. It does help to know you're not alone. At least our condition is becoming 'recognized now. Until I was about 21, I didn't even know there was a name for what I had. I just thought I was some kind of freak! I still feel like a freak, but at least I know I'm not the only one! LOL
I actually met a social phobic guy in a group like this, and we ended up getting married a few weeks ago. Since neither of us had any friends to invite,we just ran off to Vegas and did it that way!
Up until a couple of years ago, I was in a VERY dark place, kind've like you seem to be now. No,we will never have perfect lives or be what most people consider 'normal'. We will always our struggles. But as riverside said, we do have ways to contribute to society. We can still have fun times now & then. Don't give up on yourself! There is hope for people like us. I'm certainly not saying we'll ever have some sappy fairytale life. But we can still have a life. -

we can have a wonderful life doing what makes us happy. Not living up to other peoples expectations, but our own. We are sensitive and caring in a world that isn,t. We need each other. we could create a community of SAD's then maybe we could come out of our shells. No SAD, because there's no threat. -

Hello, I'm Gen82 and suffer from social anxiety (SAD). I noticed there wasn't any group that specifically addressed this disorder at the time so I started my own. Social Anxiety is a term used to describe an experience of anxiety (emotional discomfort, fear, apprehension or worry) regarding social situations and being negatively evaluated by other people. Be kind & considerate to all members & support each other. Please join us, you don't have to feel alone anymore!
