I have social anxiety that has been going on for all my life. Am a shy person, and could never get a job as a cashier. That would cause me great anxiety. My sister is the same way, and we had an abusive father.

In high school I was in a play with a speaking part. Would you believe?

I've also had social anxiety my whole life. I inherited it from my father. I've heard that several people on his side of the family had it. I know exactly what you mean;I could never be a casheir either. Believe it or not, I was also in a play in school! I can't say I did great in it,but I got through it without forgetting any of my lines. I think I just kind've spaced out, and went into 'robot mode'. It felt surreal,as if I were dreaming.
Would you also believe that I met a man on the internet, who also has social anxiety, and we were married last month in Las Vegas?!

bm55, I could never be a cashier either. (I actually was at one time in my life, and I hated it. Lot's of anxiety.) For me, I think it's social anxiety mixed with Math Anxiety or Math Phobia. There are several books out there on this subject.

    leannhf, congratulations!

I've had social anxiety my whole life too and I too could not ge a job as a cashier. I've thought about it but I'm way too shy. That's great that you were in a play with a speaking part! I could NEVER do that! You should be very proud of yourself.
