Moved to a new town
Posted on 08/26/09, 11:17 pm
I recently moved to a new town and while I was doing really well when I lived in the city with my social anxiety and agoraphobia, it has blown up since I moved to a new town in a rural area. I'm really depressed and lonely with no friends here. I would like to go to church but am too scared to go. I feel like everyone stares at my children and I when we go out and know that we are new in town. I feel like we are judged or that I am judged before I'm met. When people are friendly, I feel like there is some ulterior motive to them being nice. It's driving me crazy, literally. What's worse, my oldest daughter is starting kindergarten and I'm petrified!! I worry about how she will handle it, how kids will treat her, how I will handle her being away from me. I can't stand it. My social anxiety is ruining my life! :(

Everyone has something they have to deal with. Even the people who seem to be carefree have problems & worries. You don't have to be different than who you are...just keep reminding yourself that you are a good person with good intentions. -

I understand how you feel because I struggle with this myself. I just try to keep the voices in my head as positive as possible. I have had to re-program my thinking...& I'm constantly learning. I send good wishes to you. -

put on a good front for your little one she does not need to be scared of school its a scary place on its own but knowing mommy is scared too .. it would be harder.. just meet people slowly at the market.. complement the town that will get a convo moving ..good luck making friends :) you can do it -

oh my goodness why didn't I ever think of that?!?! Compliment the town. What a great idea, amyswift! I can't believe I hadn't thought of that before, but it's brilliant. Such an easy way to break the ice and so much better than "so what do you think of the weather".
