There WILL be a next year!
Posted by EmpoweredOKC - 05/18/09, 09:05 pmIt's decided. The group was 100% unified in sitting me down to convince me of the importance of this event annually. And the group even suggesting that we spend a year collectively fundraising!
I spoke with Bill Miller about this, and he said "absolutely." He told his manager that some "gigs" are for income, but others are for his own health, and this is one he insists on doing from now on. Bill told me that he wants to form friendships with you that continue for many years, and he would be willing to plan years' ahead to design themes we could continue through together; he already has some things on his mind he hadn't shared yet that he wants to address next year.Bill also asked if we could put up a tipi next year, so there is a beautiful, shaded place outdoors to gather.
How about May 14, 15, 16 2010?
We could meet at other plcations, but if you want the sweatlodge cleansing ceremony to be annual (for self-care/renewal each spring), we'd probably need to keep it here at Saints Grove. It's entirely up to you.

The date...? Absolutely! I OWN MAY! I absolutely OWN it.

I am going to put that in my book :)
Solstice
Of course, the 16th means a half-day again: close, pack, and travel. Is that cool?

I am in! This is so wonderful!

You know what I would love to do? Buy that entire campground from the church and convert it into a full-time retreat for people who need a safe community during their healing. Not a commune, not a religious operation, just nature trails, lake, horses, cabins, and a group of like-minded supporters, full-time, for anyone who needed it. Become a 501(c)(3) entity, bill insurance for services, and bring in the local college students as interns for everything from grounds management to equine health care to practicum students in counseling to accounting/billing/business training. Just another dream.

Horses are absolutely amazing creatures, and very healing for me. I would love nothing more than to have somewhere to go to be able to ride horses and talk to them. It sounds like an amazing idea. Someday, we can make it a reality, Matt. ^.^

If the stimulus money continues, there may even be grants available for something like this! Thanks to the stimulus bill, our local state Coalition received $100,000 to create new jobs in domestic/sexual violence work.
EmpoweredOKC
There is a grant from the UN for $300,000 for organizations that help women of domestic violence, rape, etc. I like the idea of a permanent healing place... we.. all of us suvivors really need that...
