Religious experience, epiepsy & bipolar?

Posted on 01/28/09, 12:05 am
Firstly,
I don't know if anyone comes here anymore but I love, love love this topic!
So here's an addition.

This article is on religious experience in the brain and may've already been cited here but if not I think it's interesting that Temporal Lobe Epilepsy is implicated in religious experiences, as well as 'paranormal' stuff- out of body experience and so on. Stuff that makes us feel in touch with another realm in a very visceral way, very physical. They've found they can isolate and stimulate the exact areas in the brain that do this, and they're activated in epilepsy as well.

So I think it's interesting that many bipolar drugs were initially used as anti-siezure meds for epileptics. LIke there's something of a mini-seizure going on or something...

    hi
im new to the group but am into all mystic, psychological etc
i have sm personal experineces with various "altered states" as im sure many if not most have and am interested in seeking, learning ,exploring our collective reality/realities.
    i like yr info.
yes i have heard of links betw. epilepsy and paranormal.
some views regard them as individual phenomena.others as related
i am more into the latter, finding a holistic relation.
for example, from the above article ,is there a relation and/or interaction between the physical (brain) and energetic(spiritual beings)?
    thank u for yr post:))

Welcome
